  • Thanks BB - you're a star! Strange thing is I'm not unfit, I don't smoke, or drink, or take things I shouldn't, I'm ideal weight etc and only 28, but have 0 confidence and suffer anxiety and panic so it's taking me all my rationale to persuade myself that feeling out of breath isn't panic! I'm getting there slowly, but i wish it had "clicked" for me a long time ago

It sounds silly but did anyone start this and think that they'd never be able to run 30mins? Im seriously having a moment of doubt in myself.

ETA - also when did it become a habit for people? How quickly we're you "bitten by the running bug?"

I think we probably all did. I've never run in my life before and I struggled to run for one minute at the start. I think it was week 5 that had the really scary run at the end - 20 minutes, but we all managed it when it came to actually attempt it.

I think I've been well and truly bitten by the bug, probably after my first outdoors run. It was just getting over the fear of being outside with people looking at me that was the hardest thing. Mind you, first thing on a Sunday morning I don't bump into that many people.
  • See I don't care in the slightest what people think of me, so getting out never bothered me, it's more my breathing that worries me, and I talk myself out of my run before I've even put my shoes on! I've got the totally wrong mindset

I never ever thought about running for thirty minutes as I couldn't honestly see beyond making it through the next run.

You really do have to just take it one week at a time and not look beyond the next run. You're obviously a lot younger / fitter than some of us if you can run for half a mile already, so I don't doubt you will get there but I do think you would be wise to try and stick with the program to build up your strength and stamina.

Even after having done some of the longer runs, like others here, I still struggle with the notion that we I will be able to repeat the same again another day - I have only completed 30 minutes once in full and I have some nagging doubts about being able to do that again.

The big one for me was the last run of week 5 as mentioned by Jacky; that for me was monumental. When you have run for that twenty minutes it does start to seem entirely possible that you can do twenty five or thirty minutes.

  • Thank you KS, I will stick with the program as I am enjoying just coping with the runs. If I push to much I will fail and put myself off (again) and its much harder starting it again knowing if I'd stuck at it I wouldn't have to.

You especially have inspired me to start and keep going, seeing the struggles you faced in week 5 and continuing made me realise that I can do it too. So thank you

  • Managed it! Hurrah!

My hips are in agony today though - I think once I finish the program I might drop to 20 minutes (it's at 17 or so minutes that pain kicks in during a run) until that's comfortable and build it up again :)

    Feeling much more positive though!

  • Just want to say thank you to everybody on this thread!!!

This morning I've completed my first week 9 run 1. In response to people asking how do you go from 1 minute to 30 minute runs..........I have no idea - BUT IT WORKS!!!!!!

I had never ran for a bus before I started this so really was the sofa queen, and it has taken me longer than 9 weeks as I can only run twice a week due to work, but I don't think it has harmed me.

1 good point I read on here was don't move onto the next run until your 100% happy! I tried this around week 5 and felt so sad I hadn't managed the next run, but when I thought about it - I had kinda cheated the week before and my god I felt it. So went back did it properly and moved on again.

I have followed the nhs podcasts all along the way, yes they get repetitive but I tried to run with the radio and couldn't mange it, there must be something in the music too.

I've got two runs left, I've not reached 5k yet but I will work on that - touch wood, I'll get it before Xmas, I'm not too far off.

I've also download the c25k+ podcasts! has anybody tried these?

    Good luck to everybody :T

    Well done tinofpeas!

Krustylouise - I couldn't even run for a bus when I started (and I refused to do so!), now I've finished the plan and jog 30 minutes three times a week. I'm not sure where it is but during one week you'll get a bit of guidance on breathing which I've found really helps. Just remember that the plan is designed so that once you're ok with doing a week you'll be able to do the next week, I remember being scared of having to suddenly do 3 minutes of jogging but really it does build you up so you can get there.

Having said all that... I don't wanna go out running tonight :(. Someone make me?

I need to find the breathing advice, I know you should breath in through your nose and out your mouth, but I have huge sinus issues and it physically hurts to do that...
  • Thanks CoC - I don't have the podcasts I just have the c210k app, which just has a voice and a beep when it's time to walk/jog/halfway. I'm hoping that by taking it slowly I become comfortable and confident in my method and become less anxious about it all!

What is your next aim now you have finished?
