Good work everyone, I've just done my second Week 8 run. That was a fairly steady and strong run for 28 minutes, followed by five minutes of wobbly, bambi legs for the walking. :D

  • Well done Kiwisaver!

I did week 7 run 3 today, so I'll be on the 28 min runs next! It was OK, got through it all but my pace was very slow, much slower than the last two runs (I used Runkeeper again).

BUT the route was really quite hilly, more so than I anticipated (what seems like the slightest of inclines in your normal everyday walking about fills you with dread as you run ever so slowly towards it, I've found :rotfl:). Plus, I know the point is to not focus on pace but just make sure you can run the time, which I did.

Well done! I know exactly what you mean about the hills Bluegreen - even some tiny little ones can be quite a challenge.

On my run yesterday I decided to change it up a bit and went along a different stretch of road for a while - I instantly regretted it when I came to a long steep uphill incline but laughed to myself when I found the silver lining - running back down the other side. ;)

  • Week 8 run 1 done last night :) Monday night got nixed due to a prior engagement I'd forgotten about! Kiwisaver - I totally understand the "bambi" legs...

I find I'm quite territorial about "my" treadmill haha! I like the one under the air conditioner!

Well done everyone - keep it up :)

Glad to see everybody still doing well. I did week 8 run 2 on the treadmill yesterday. I've been finding the first 5 minutes to be really hard but seems to get better after that.

Hoping to wake up nice and early tomorrow and get outside for run 3 before I go to work.

One thing I have noticed though was when I was out hillwalking on Sunday, getting up the steep bits is much easier than it used to be. I was always the one at the back gasping for air and stopping every few steps but this time I actually had time to sit at the top and enjoy the sunshine while waiting for others to arrive :D.

I'm with you Jacky, the first five always seems tough and awkward to me before I get settled into a steady pace.

I am all done with Week 8, third run completed tonight, so moving on up to the final week some point over the weekend.

  • Congratulations Kiwisaver, that's great!

I too find the first 5mins or so hard, but then it's just sort of "well, I'm doing it now so I may as well keep going" haha.

Disaster for me though - I have twisted my ankle at gymnastics class! Iced and ibuprofened so hopefully I can get back to it ASAP!

Oh no HBS, get better soon!

I'm better now. I went out last night and I can still do 30 minutes. Pleased about that.

At the start I feel like "Well I've come out now so I may as well get on and do it". I find the hardest part is around 10-15 minutes, I just have to think I've done it before so I can do it this time! After that it sort of gets easier again, like I get a second wind, or maybe just because I'm heading for the finish.
  • CupofChai - totally agreed that the worst bit for me in half way through! (Maybe because that's when I realised I started way too fast...)

Ran week 8 run 1 tonight after work - so chuffed as it was best, most enjoyable run yet and fastest pace (still slow for normal runners at 12.22 mins per mile) in spite of it being longest run so far. Didn't seem any harder than the 25 min runs, in fact was easier than 2 of them (the first and last were both tough for me).

I wisely chose a much less hilly route this time and made a conscious effort to start slow, so that I still had energy left and really picked up the pace to run quite fast for the last five mins. Feel amazing as I've never ended on a high like that, normally I'm dying lol. Sooo worth keeping some energy for the last few mins!

Hope everyone else has been managing to run :-)
