Week 7 finished here too :j

It's felt quite hard this week but I've managed to keep going each time. My family and friends have been surprisingly supportive too - after they got over the initial shock of me running :rotfl:
  • I can't believe it hasn't occurred to me to see if there was an MSE C25K thread before!! Have just read back through a couple of pages and you all seem to be doing really well :D

I've been doing the podcasts for a while, in fact I just ran week 6 run 3 tonight and cannot believe that I ran 25 minutes! :j:j:j It was tough and I had a stich for the last 7 minutes or so. For the last 2-3 I was basically jogging at walking pace with one hand pressed to my side :o but I did it and didn't stop until Laura told me to.

For the first time, I tracked myself on Runkeeper while listening to the podcast (bit confusing as Runkeeper speaks to you every 5 mins and was sometimes speaking over Laura) and I ran 1.92 miles (never tracked myself before so was interested to see my speed). An extremely slow pace :o but given the stitch I guess it's not too terrible.

Can't believe it's all long runs now with no walking though  I haven't had to repeat any runs yet or failed any, so pleased with that, but only managed two last week due to being extremely busy, which is why my runs are now out of sync with the actual week. hope week seven isn't too hard!

Well done all the week 7 graduates!

I'm getting really fed up of being ill now. I want to go out for a run, and I'm now worrying that I'll end up not having been for so long that I lose the fitness I built up. But I still can't go yet as I'm worried that if I try I might end up coughing myself inside out!
  • Sorry to hear you're still poorly CoC!

I'm slathered in Deep Heat today...my quads have never been so sore! Maybe I didn't stretch out enough...

Oh CupofChai - sorry you're not well! But you're right not to run if you're not well, as you risk making yourself worse. And I think it takes a good few weeks to lose the fitness you've gained in any case :)

Did week 7 run 1 tonight! And in contrast to the first 25 min run, I found it not too bad (no stitches and I never seriously felt like stopping early either), and dare I say enjoyable in parts?? Tracked it on Runkeeper and while the last run was at 13.07 mins per mile (I know this is really slow :o) this was at 12.30, so I feel like I've improved at least :):):)

Went a different route and although it had some difficulties (crossing roads was a nightmare as it there was busy traffic), I liked it better than the last route I went so will try it again at quieter times

Two more 25 min runs before moving up to 28. For the first time, I'm feeling that it's feasible I could actually run for 30, as I felt like I could have continued tonight! We'll see how the next two runs go...

I will attempt week 8 later today but my legs are still heavy and tired even after two days off, so I won't pressure myself to get to the end. I will do the same as I did on Wednesday and just aim to run for as long as I can.

ETA. Well I went out and pounded the pavements for a while to the tune of Week 8 and somehow made it through the full 28 minutes. :D

I felt a bit weak all through until halfway and then I think I found my pace. Just as well not too many people saw me doing the wobbly / drunken legged meander at the end that was supposed to be my brisk cool down walk.:rotfl:

Well done BG and Kiwi . I've just done week 8 run 1 on the treadmill. I had to slow down for the last 3 minutes - definitely must be psychological! But I did complete the 28 minutes. Think I prefer running outside but it's just so cold and windy here all the time.

I'm going out with the Ramblers on Sunday so won't run again until Tuesday.

Sorry you're still unwell Cupofchai. You must be feeling very frustrated but best to wait till you're completely better before trying to run again. Don't want to make yourself worse.
  • :T:TWell done BG and Kiwi. Very impressive achievements when you think where you started from.

Cup of Chai - I too think you are wise to wait. Yes it is frustrating but listening to your body pays off in the longer term in my experience.

It's tipping down here, and I'm waiting to do my 1/3. Hoping it eases off before it gets dark.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • Kiwisaver and Jacky-f - well done you on your 28 min runs. That'll be me next week - eek!

Did week 7 run 2 today, so third 25 min run, and it was a little harder than run 1 but I did it ok and my time pace was a teeny tiny smidgen lower than the last one too.

So need to get new trainers as I've had mine for years and they were cheap anyway. The problem is that I hate shopping (and all errands in general actually) and have been trying to unsuccessfully force myself to go into town to get them for the last 6 weeks. Please someone nag me this time next week if I don't get them next weekend ;)

Hope everyone else's runs are going well :)
