You haven't had a cold or anything have you? They kill my exercising even if I don't feel too bad.

1940sGal I'm having a similar experience to you though I've finally worked out why.

For me although my overall time isn't quicker I'm starting off much faster, getting ridiculously tired at 2.5k and then slowing up so my total time is about the same each time.

I've also worked out I'm bored of my route (not much I can do though as I'm in a really hilly area so routes are limited) and I need more variation in music as I have the same playlist on each time.

Plus I think I've now got it in my mind because of all these things I'm not a natural runner which makes me want to give up faster if that makes sense?

I'm trying to regulate my early speed tonight to see if that helps...

    Thanks :)

No I've not been ill. I have been on days so I'm having to run in the afternoon after work so maybe I'm just tired.

I think that's very likely another factor. I start off too fast. When I did 5k I did it in 26:57 and a friend did her first 5k just before me and came in at over 30 minutes, which I think is a much more realistic time for a first go.

I'll go tomorrow and slow it right down and see how that goes.

Thanks both of you, I was having a moan more than anything :)

Chickvic - I think I'm only doing just over 3km as well. I tried using the Map My Run website again last night to map out my preferred route and see how far I was going etc, but I've got in a strop with it now because it hasn't got some of the roads on it! How can it measure how far I'm going and work out a 5km route to attempt if it thinks my route doesn't exist?!

1940sGal - don't give up hope, you're still doing so well, maybe it is just that you're starting off too fast or already more tired than you were before. You'll still improve!

I have embarked upon Week 5 . Run 1 went ok, although the achy legs have returned, I felt the burn alright!

Thanks I think I am starting too fast. It doesn't feel like it half the time but it's the most logical explanation alongside tiredness.

And you know what they say about aches. If it's aching, it's working. I hope it's true anyway, I'd hate to think all this pain was for nothing! :o

  • oh lordy week 4 is hard!! Managed the first run though, took speed down a tiny notch when I got tired and just about got through it.

I never thought I could run for 5 minutes :D

Yay for you! It is blooming hard isn't it?

Never thought I could jog for 5 whole minutes either. Now tonight I've got to do 8 minutes. Yikes. Every single time I'm going to do a podcast I think "Oh God I can't do that..." even when I have done it before.

Well done everyone, keep up the good work! :T

I'm feeling braver today, although the backs of my thighs are a little achy today I am going to have a go at week three tomorrow.
