I'm hoping to start this at the weekend - any tips or tricks (without making me read the whole thread!)? I have the podcast ready to go.

  • Hi, I am new to this thread.
I started the C25k in April! Kept having breaks and kinda got thrown off course. So, I have picked up at Wk4 R1 as my general fitness levels aren't too bad. This was hard work. I am using a treadmill to do it and wondering what speeds people use. I was going at 4.5 mph during the running parts- it felt about right, anything more and I couldn't have continued. I checked my heart rate throughout and I was around 174 (aged 26) during the running so I think it was a good speed for me.

Looking forward to staying on track with it this time and have come to this thread for extra support. I may do Week 4 for two weeks so I am comfortable before the big jump to Wk 5.

Hi and welcome to all the newbies I have only just started myself

lilian - just go for it, that's what I did if have any questions after your first run just ask someone will advise you. All you need is a pair of running shoes (any will do to start but you should think about getting a good properly fitted pair to avoid injury - but no need to spend out till you are sure you will continue) and a sports bra.

Today I did wk2 run1. I did stop on one of the walking parts but that wasn't due to tiredness but I saw some blackberries and couldn't resist :)

You are suppose to do the plan 3 times a week with a days rest in-between so yes every other day is about right. However life gets in the way so its not always possible, just do what you can manage anything is better than nothing. I would not recommend going out more than every other day, I will have to go again tomorrow as I struggle with babysitters so have to go when I get the opportunity but I know it will be tough and I will then have a few days rest before the nxt session.

Welcome everyone new, great to see more people joining in :j

My advice would be to just try it, you have nothing to lose :A

The 60 seconds will be hard work at first, don't underestimate it or feel down trodden that it was hard. Be proud you are trying it and just stay on the levels as you need to. Before you know it you will be amazed as your shape starts to change and your fitness improves:T

Good luck to you all on your first/next run.
Life is short, smile while you still have teeth :D

Wow, welcome to all the new runners. I have been doing every other day three times a week as recommended and do yoga on the spare day.

I've been wondering if and at what stage had people started to notice any change in weight / shape.

Thanks all. I've been meaning to start every night this week but life really does take over doesn't it?

If I can't start tomorrow it will be Friday (I'm out tonight) then I hope to get a run in either Saturday or Sunday morning, depending which day I start. I have also joined a gym and plan to swim on Monday mornings, yoga on Tuesdays and pilates on Thursdays. So if I can run on Wednesday nights , Friday nights and Sunday nights will that be ok? I know you're supposed to rest in between but is a stretching exercise like yoga ok?

I have found it works really well for me, I've chosen Tuesdays Thursday and Saturday to do C25K, so rest on Sunday and then do yoga on Mondays instead of having a two day break. I have enjoyed the yoga all the more for it, as it has helped ease any leg pains and stiffness from running.
