It's quite normal on setting up an account for a company to pre-clear a small payment just to confirm name and address and so on, but they don't usually actually take the money, or I can remember one that charged a penny.

I'd ask for the money back, and discuss it with the credit card company

But its in the terms and conditions on the website that they will take £1.99 to confirm those details. The issue is whether they are entitled to charge the fee having refused the contract.

OP - is the deal you signed up to with simply3g but through a satellite company or is it a totally different company?

If they made the credit checks, including card checks before they turned you down, then I would say they are entitled to the fee. If the checks have not been made then they are not.

I've got a 3 contract through them. Just in the process of claiming back my first cashback. They sent me an email saying that my application for cashback had been successful, and the cheque will be posted soon.

I have heard from other boards that they do give cashback, but are extremely tight with their terms & conditions, so if you don't follow them to the letter, you won't get your cashback.

so i hope to see my cheque in the next few days.

I signed up to simply3g, through their own website. Thay also charged me £1.99, as per their terms & conditions. My application was approved, so i didn't worry about it too much.

But to charge you even if you didn't get a contract with them is a bit cheeky. But, its probably allowed legally, as it does state it in the t&c's. i don't agree with it though.

I haven't seen this company before. Has anyone used them? Are they any good?

They have lots of 12 month free line rental deals.

I,ve got two contracts with this company and they paid my first cashback with no problems...

I,m in the process of getting my final cashback now and hopefully that will go as smoothly as the first....So i would not worry about using them!

I'm with the Mobileoutlet at the moment. They have just paid me £360 cash back for 6 months on two phones. They are getting a bad press too with not paying out and confusion over their T&C. I always email company before taking out a contract to clarify t&c for cashback to hopefully avoid this sort of problem. Worked ok for 4 years but the deals are getting thinner on the ground and the t&c more onerous.

  • Hi,

Just an update on my final cashback claim... I,ve just received a confirmation email saying that the cheque is on it,s way!!

So no worries with Simply 3G at all....
  • I posted my first cashback with this company at the end of November and I'm still waiting for my money. It will be 52 days this wednesday.

I emailed them a few weeks ago to check on the progress of my claim and was informed by them that 3 had told them that my bills hadn't been paid:mad:(i am paying by direct debit) I called 3 and had a conference call with simply3g to clarify that my bills had been paid. I was told that somebody would ring me back the same day, I'm still waiting for that phone call 10 days later. I e mailed again and received a reply saying that they were still looking into my claim, this was last wednesday. I'm still waiting.

They are very slow in responding and if I hadn't e mailed them to find out about the progress of my claim I don't think they would have bothered getting in touch.

Just got my 1st cashback cheque from them with no problems.

they do take their time sending the cheque, & if you have problems then they don't have telephone help though.

Also, i think the cheque i received was for more money that i was claiming
    :-) I'm not complaining. lol.

Received my 1st cashback cheque from them with no problems.

They don't have great customer service, if you do need to contact them for any reason. But if you follow all their t&c's exactly, you shouldn't have any problems.
