As I said, that's for the iPad's 1GHz A4 processor, which just about beats a 1GHz Snapdragon. The iPhone 4 uses an underclocked version, i.e. deliberately slowed down to save battery life (800Mhz compared to 1GHz). Thus it is likely to be slower than the current Snapdragon, and certainly slower than the new 1.3GHz Snapdragon to be launched this quarter.
Thats irrlevent, the Desire or Nexus won't get the 1.3 chip as a retrofit.
As has been seen with the Nexus one FroYo update the chip speed is just one part of it. Many people have reported that FroYo has such a speed improvement that it's like a new phone. It just shows how if you optimise the code for the platform it's on the physical clock speed is soimewhat irrelevent.
And lets fact it as Apple own the lot from custom hardware to firmware to software you can guess it's tightly integrated, where as the snapdragon is QualComm, The OS, Google and the "firmware" the vendor.
A mac of a similar ish speed to a PC will have a slower processor, and an AMD chip usually has a higher speed rating than the same speed intel chip.
Mere Mhz numbers are not the way to measure speed.0 -

There are already established open protocols for video calls. You can already make Skype video calls on Symbian and Android-based phones, over both 3G and WiFi, and without the requirement that the other person has exactly the same phone as you.poppy100 -

Engadgets first hands on:
Some takeaways about the device:- As we said, it's shockingly thin.
- The screen is truly outrageous -- you basically cannot see pixels on it. We're not being hyperbolic when we say it's easily the best looking mobile phone screen we've ever laid eyes on.
- The build quality is really solid. The home button feels much snappier, and on the whole it just feel like a tightly-packed device, but it's not heavy.
- The side buttons are really nice and clicky.
- iOS 4 is very familiar -- there's not a lot added to fit and finish.

cant see that 900x640 would be any real improvement unless the screen is over 4 inches if im honest, if its not OLED i will be disappointed with apple
Wonder what 4743hudsonj thinks of engadets comments on the iPhone 4 screen :rotfl:Hardcore moneysaver0 -

1. How do you know? Have you seen it up close? Many people see AMOLED as better quality than IPS TFT
2. Unlikely. The iPhone is likely to use an underclocked version of the iPad's A4, which is barely faster than the Snapdragon.
3. If you use it as an music iPod only, yes the battery lasts a long time.
4. The video calling is a complete fail, even you have to admit that. First of all you have to be sure the person you are calling also has an iPhone, then you have to check whether they have the latest iPhone 4 rather than a 3GS, and then you have to check whether they are at home in range of a WiFi connection. In which case you could just fire up your computer and get better quality videoconferencing with a decent webcam.
Outside in bright sunlight they aint.Thats the reason i dumped my nexus.Ips tft doesnt have that problem.
Its a win win display :cool:0 -

Um, nah, I guess you call someone as normal, if the call is able to switch to video then the icon will be active if not then it wont so they will be no guessing or checking what phone they have. Remember they said wifi only in 2010, maybe after Christmas it will be 3G as well.
Were these restrictions just on AT&T??? Maybe O2 will allow 3G & wifi video???
It wouldnt be the first time there is a difference in what the networks allow from here compared to the US.....RE Tethering, Pay as you go handsets etc
Just thoughts but as i said earlier video calling does kinda suck on 3G so maybe only want a top expericence!Hardcore moneysaver0 -
