But I have used one, owned it for a week and it went back because of all the dropped calls and loss of reception when touching the phone, therefore no need for him to ignore my comment.
I don't find the 'deathgrip' to be a problem for me as I don't naturally hold the phone that way when making a call anyway. What is definatly noticeable is that side by side on the table with my Nokia N95 both running on the 3 network, the iphone always has proportionally fewer bars...this is after the OS4.1 update, so maybe the iphone is just being more realistic than the Nokia now.

In my experience, iPhone 3GS used for two years and I could make calls while holding it, iPhone 4 I can't, I don't really care about bars or how it compares to Nokia, it's a simple case of being able to make a call or not.
I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?

That's a shame for you. I don't seem to have this though and I'm often in a weak signal area (I have 1 bar currently, and I have made several phone calls today with no problems).

I wonder what we're doing differently!

Probably not being a big turnip!

I have found the same even with one bar it makes calls fine but it never seems to have worse signal than my 3gs 32gb maybe the fact that there both 32gb makes a difference.

Anyone still waiting on Tesco - my local store called me today, and I picked mine up. Can't seem to replicate the death grip, which is nice.

I had an LG Viewty on 3 before which consistently was on 'H' rather than 3g at my house. Now with the iphone 4 (still on 3) I'm lucky if I can even get 3g. Can the iphone even get HSDPA? Considering I always had a reasonable signal strength before, I'm disappointed by how much time the phone is either with no service or 'searching'. The deathgrip doesn't come into it as all this occurs when it's on a flat surface.

Pretty chuffed with my iPhone 4. I get a poor signal at home as Vodafone don't supply 3G here - but when I'm out on the go it works great.

Yes...this seems to be the same as me. I also had the same experience when I tried out the iphone 3G a couple of years ago (but even worse reception because I was comparing O2 to 3). I think Apple just aren't very good at making anntenae and haven't prioritized this less glamorous function of their product...hopefully they'll learn this time round.
Incidently, the iphone 4 can indeed get HSDPA, but doesn't differentiate between this and 3G with a status icon (unlike pretty much every other 3G phone)...it only has icons for 3G, EDGE and GPRS. Don't know why apple are obsessed with EDGE; who had heard of it before the iphone? perhaps it is an american thing.
This is a link to the full manual where it details this:

I'm still waiting for Tesco to get some in, i WAS waiting for the white one but I'll have to settle for black 16gb now which doesn't bother me too much. My local store hasn't got a clue when they are getting any in and when I phoned Tesco online yesterday the bloke tried to sell me a Smasun Wave instead! He's speech was quite funny..."It looks better than the Iphone and it's....better cos it's......just better, it does everything better" This made me think it migt be a while before they are getting any Iphone 4's in.

Has anyone else had anymore experience of returning the Iphone 4 to Tesco and what's their official stance on the antenna issue? I don't want to buy it only to find I'm trapped in, if I did get the problem I would happily exchange for the same handset if that solved it.
