Separately, any feedback on how good/bad the GPS funcationality is in the iPhone4? i.e. is it suitable for turn-by-turn navigation in the car instead of using a dedicated GPS unit?

    Cheers,

    ~Andrew~

Andrew, you could try Skobbler - be careful as there are 2 apps with the same name. You want the free "lite" version as the only difference is that the paid one gives you GATSO cameras.

Skobbler will use your data allowance, so be careful. It will, however, be the best way for you to check out how well the GPS works on your phone.

I've used TomTom with my HP iPaq and now Windows Phone. It works, but is expensive.

HI all...I am totally new to iphone, I want to get one as my current mobile (payg) is rubbish and I want to upgrade to a contract iphone to keep up with friends, listen to music, play games etc.

As a complete numpty with these things, can anyone advise me should I def go for the new iphone and if so what do I need to look for in my contract?

I will go back and read this thread also, but thought I would just ask here in case anyone can help...

    Thanks

    Hi Chick.

Three seem to offer the lowest up-front prices for the iPhone, but you have to sign up for a 2 year contract.

Tesco want lots of money up front, but after 12 months, you can go on a "sim only" contract that's much cheaper.

O2 are the original iPhone company and I like their customer service.

Orange are a complete waste of space and I've had nothing but trouble with them. Their website sucks and their customer service is the worst I've ever had the misfortune of contending with.

T-mobile are slow at getting things done, so don't bother waiting for them to get their backsides in gear.

    Vodafone are just plain expensive.

So your choices are really Three, Tesco or O2.

Check all of their websites for their mobile internet coverage in your area, both for home and work, then pick the one that suits your needs best.

Go for the iPhone 4 if you can afford it.

Just another opinion/suggestion about the malfunctioning Iphone 4 ..

I got it on Day 1 complete with bumper from O2 -I bought myself out of my last contract at great non mse expense and from the start had lots of dropping signal issues,I have struggled on with it but it's been really dire and I was desperate to get shot of it.

I waited for Apple and o2 to finish arguing over legalities and pondered what to do.

    A) If returned it via Apple I would only get £29 returned for phone plus £20 for bumper
    B) Apparantly it's impossible to get out of/ cancel the new O2 24 m contract and revert back to old contract and old iphone - even though only reason for upgrade was i-phone 4 which isn't fit for purpose. Grrrrr
    C) Swap for different model/brand but as I unfortunately worship at the alter of Apple, it doesn't taste right.
    D) Sell on ebay for which would return money but then stuck with contract but no phone apart from digging out old one which has been donated to younger sibling - not worth the fight to get it back !

Sooo much deliberation was had, several phone calls to O2 and Apple and much stamping of feet and then the brainwave ..

Today I went to O2 shop and swapped 'old' iphone 4 for new iphone 4. Simples !!

The shop boy told me that most issues had been resolved by either getting one of a later batch of hand sets or by getting the shop to replace the sim card which they can do on site in 20 mins to transfer your old phone number across to a new sim card.

Anyway - my iphone 4 now works beautifully with no issues at all. Hurrah !!

In happier news, just got an email from Apple stating that my free bumper has been shipped and will be with me in 3 days. This is good news since it stated shipping '1 September' when I applied for the free bumper!

Hmmm.... Sounds like there was some fault with your phone other than the "death grip". Pleased you got it sorted.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Got mine on tues, if i hold it in the "death grip" it drops 1 bar, had no issues what so ever.

Fitted my zagg scrren protectors yeasterday, great bit of kit, dont think i will bother with a case now, even though i have the free one coming from apple.

So much better than my ipod touch and old nokia, its not combining an ipod and a phone, its creating a new object alltogether, it just does everything on another level.

Only complaint i have is battery isnt as good as i'd hoped, but it is a great bit of kit, just make sure i have a charger with me all the time, always somewhere to plug in (heard there are prechargable battery packs you can add on aswell, may get a couple)

Overall, 3 days of use, love it.

FAO Haters - if you havnt used one, you cant comment, if you have used one & still dont like it, you're doing it wrong.
