its no suprise the billions they lost as they released a product with a major flaw and have done nothing really about other than say dont hold it in the area and get a cover.
I am still on 3GS (can change in bout 6 months) and hopefully by then they would release a ebtter model which doesnt have the problem ro maybe even just save up wait for the next one.

They deserve their share price being wiped off. if only they had admitted that their was a flaw with the design. best policy in life is own up before it gets bad.

However my collague has the iphone 4 and reports no signal problems. I cant decide to get it or not????

I have no signal problems. I'm on o2. However I can't access the Internet on the phone at work and the emails don't download. I didn't have this problem with the 3G.

Cheers Krysio for that but I can't see the £20 per month deal. Do you know where to find it?

I'm not sure why the iPhone with contract is listed on the direct website - only PAYG should be listed on the Tesco Direct (and they are not in stock). If you want to see the 12 month contract, try TescoMobile.com.

Now tesco have managed to lose my phone between confirming the order by email and giving it to the delivery people. They told the delivery people to expect it but then never gave it to them... grrr and now tesco are trying to "find the phone"!

for all those that are holding back, there's no sign out there that this "issue" is causing any users to return their phones because of it. on the contrary, most report much improved reception on 4 to earlier models and other devices, not to mention the voice call quality improvement made by the noise cancelling mic.
as I see it there is a flaw that may affect some in certain situations, but on the whole reception is improved greatly.
being a newbie I can't post links but check today's daringfireball's links to get a reality check (yes he's 'biased', but is at least level headed and rational, unlike much of the coverage out there)
none of this will ever stop me from getting one

My iphone 4 arrived Monday - I was extremely worried about all the negative press it had received!
However I can honestly say I have had no issues with reception.
I think it was 100% worth upgrading early with 02, so far so good and no major issues!
Well apart from trying to insure it! Absolute nightmare!

read the actual consumer reports test result and see the video yourself.

    extract ....
"If you want an iPhone that works well without a masking-tape fix, we continue to recommend an older model, the 3G S. "

I'll look forward to that; it should be interesting.

I'm tempted to go back and watch the IP4 Steve Jobs vid again, just to see if I can work out how he's holding the phone when he has the trouble getting on line. Wouldn't it be funny if Steve Jobs was the first person to publicly experience the "Death Grip"!!

I think there are 2 possible results:

    1. iOS 4.01
If Steve Jobs arrives on stage with 2 phones, they'll have found a software fix to the problem and have decided to do a big public pitch to say "we were right and you were wrong".

    2. iOOPS
The other possibility is that SJ will admit that there is a design flaw in the IP4. How they deal with that is going to be awkward; do they shove the IP4 guts into a 3GS body, or offer "return or free bumper" to customers? I just don't know......
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.
