Just been on the phone to my local tesco if anyone is interested and the bloke said they were expecting some in this Friday and it would be a "significant amount" they would be getting. Also asked if he knew when they might be getting it in white and he said "to be honest it will probably be some time".
I now have a dilemma as I much prefer the look of the white one and I was waiting for that to come out but typically the screen has gone on my Nokia N95 today! Trying to think if there's any wat I could get the black for now and try and take it back and buy the white one when it's out? I doubt it though if I'm buying it on contract which I am.
So it's either that or I'll have to borrow my gf's pink phone until the white Iphone comes out which could end up being anoher month or 2 by the time they are in shops such as Tesco!!!

Hey, Thanks for that, just a question, whats your local branch as mine don't seem quite as helpful?

No probs, my local branch is Chesterfield, its a new huge one.
  • I think I saw on one of the o2 forums that there's a rumour the white one will be available on Friday....could tie in with the fact that Chris said Tesco will be getting a significant amount of stock on Friday? OR....could all be rubbish! And they will just be getting black ones!

Hmmm. Well I heard from someone who works for Tesco Head Office (but not in the mobile department) who has seen has a memo that says that Tesco do not expect to have significant levels of iPhone 4 stock to start selling them on PAYG any time soon. The memo indicates that they do not expect to have appropriate stock levels until August or September so will only sell with contracts for the time being.

From reading forums, it seems that Tesco have probably had around 1,000 to sell over the phone and about the same amount in stores. Perhaps they will be getting more stock soon but I wouldn't hold your breath if you're waiting for PAYG.

I wish they'd update their website to say that they don't expect PAYG stock until X date rather than an unknown date as it is now. Of course, they may get extra stock from Apple and this could all be irrelevant. I'm hoping so as I really want to get on one PAYG and stick to my existing contract.

The rumour has been floating around for a while about white iPhone 4s being available from the second half of July. You think Apple would update their website to allow pre-orders if that were the case though.

Also, I think it would that mean that the thousands of people that are on the waiting list at Apple stores would be offered the white ones first (even though they've technically reserved the black one if they've used the online form instore).

I've queried the date with Apple several times regarding the white release date and it's official that it will be "2nd half of July" but wouldn't be surprised if this changed especially with a rumoured "possible recall" on all Iphone 4's. Also, we don't know if Apple are going to just make it available through themselves first and how long it might take stores such as Tesco to get them, or do they already have them?? A few forum posts I've seen have suggested some shops might already have them ready to sell but this is doubtful, who knows!? All I know is I want the white one ASAP cos I don't want to be using my gf's for long! If I could somehow get a black one on Fri and figure out how to sell/swap/echange for a white one when it's released???

It did cross my mind that the "significant amount" might include the white ones but I think it's highly unlikely, it would mean that Apple aren't going to announce the realease just put it straight in shops and also the bloke on the phone said "it might be some time" before they got any white ones so I'm thining a month or two. It's all speculation though as apart from knowing what is coming in Fri he might not have a clue what he's talking about either! When I first phoned tesco not long after launch day they didn't even know the white one wasn't going to be released yet!

Wow, Apple seem to be pretty !!!!ed off about the Cosnumer Reports and Engadget confirmation that the iPhone 4 has a major design fault with the antenna. They are deleting all mentions of it on their forums - presumably everyone has to stick to the official Jobs mantra that it is just a software interface issue.

Engadget: Apple deleting mentions of Consumer Reports' iPhone 4 piece on forums, can't delete your thoughts

Could be the fact that since the report they have had $9.9billion wiped off their value.

Obviously there is not a major fault with the phone;)

They deserve their share price being wiped off. if only they had admitted that their was a flaw with the design. best policy in life is own up before it gets bad.

However my collague has the iphone 4 and reports no signal problems. I cant decide to get it or not????

Engagdet have an interesting article from various reporters and contacts who talk about whether they can replicate 'death grip' - both in terms of signal display and any actual usage issues.
