Yup, however on reading apples statement i held the phone and took notice and the bars do do the same thing (drop) but have no trouble with calls which i was with the 4. conversations were really hard and either end just was getting upset in the end and ending the call. my 3GS is fine on calls in the same place (work/home) and i have only just noticed the bars dropping when i hold it round the bottom.
maybe OS4 is to blame however i also think there is a hardware fault and i wasnt going to pay that money for a phone for apple to just update it so the bars look ok but the call issue still being there.
With no offence to anyone i will leave that to the fanboys and have flogged it now.
I can sympathise
i tend to avoid newly released handsets now (well the high end ones anyway)
i remember getting the SE P800 when it was the new kid on the block
terrible buggy phone that never really got sorted
then i had some massive Orange SPV thing that was even worse!
now im happy to let others have the 'glory' of the latest handset until i know its stable0 -
Return the Phone to Apple (30days return) and you will get back your money. Its no point discussing the issue,it will take another 4 months for apple to fix this issue.0

HAHA i love the latest news.
They've found that the iphone 3g and 3gs have always exaggerated their available signal! so in reality the iphone 4 is no better or worse for signal (however held) it just doesnt lie when it has none.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
No, the latest news is the new firmware shows exaggerated signal for all models...
*sigh*

I think you have missed the point.
If you had read some of the preceding posts you would see that it is not the readings that matter, rather the actual signal strength.
And it is this which is a problem on the new iphone.
Apparently (for some people)0 -

I thought it was fairly poor to be honest. 3 were doing video calls of the same quality years ago. I thought it would be a decent picture. my wifi is 50meg so the video should have been decent but it just looked like an old school webcam chat.If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0
