If you had known before, you would have missed out on all of the fun.
Perhaps you can get him to clone your OS installation, so as to create a Recovery Partition.
Happy that it's up and running at no cost( having unlimited landline calls with O2 :) ). Save your cash for the necessities. :)

To be honest Donnie, he may have already "cloned" OS, I'm not sure plus I wouldn't have a clue. I explained to him exactly what had happened and what you had discovered, what you had helped fix and he took it from there. He did mention all the things you had picked up on. As regards the thingy:rotfl: (memory???) he also said it was low and that he would get me some part(?) to help make pc faster which he will bring round next week. It will be interesting to see what difference it makes. Also, again same as you he said Windows 7 couldn't possibly have been performing to it's full potential.

You are right I would have missed out on a laugh along the way if I'd known about him first:) Will take all the software back for refund asap, you all saved me a fortune.

Will cost around £20 for a 1 GB module, giving you 1.5GB RAM if you have to remove a 512MB RAM module in order to put the new module in place.

I don't think it's worth paying an extra £20 just get 2 GB(2 x 1 GB), but maybe your man on the ground will see it differently in terms of performance.

Also don't think you'll see a huge difference in performance from a fresh install already having 1GB of RAM installed. The extra RAM will come into it own when you have a few applications running at the same time.

I'm sure your Tech has cloning software. If not, Paragon Backup & Recovery Free Edition may be slightly more useful to you in backing up than Macrium Free Edition, as it supports Differential Backups. Review here.

Failing that, you can use XP's built in utility.
