Ok, let forget about the Recovery Partition
We'll go ahead with the XP MCE 2005 installation.. Did you download and save the Drivers from the website and save them to CD? There were a lot of them.
At a minimum, you need to have done so with the Network Drivers. You really need to do this or you might not have any Internet access once you have completed installation of XP MCE.
What method are you currently using to connect to the Internet?
Just on pc, have done first part of download that started last night - after having read this post just now I won't do anything else until you confirm what to do next.
I know I printed them out but don't think they were saved to cd. Can you give me instructions for downloading the drivers to save them and then to cd. Want to be 100% I have them so I won't do anything else at the moment until I hear from you.
When you say method of connecting to the Internet do you mean my Broadband, is the the company you are looking for?0 -
First part?? You've either downloaded it or you haven't. If you started it last night as I suggested it would have already completed.
As for Drivers... go to this page, add your Service Tag or select your model and Operating System(XP or MCE). You'll be presented with a list of around 12 down pointing arrows. Click on the first and select: Add To Download List for each entry. When completed, click on the arrow again to minimise it and move to the next one down. Continue this way until the Download button near the top right portion of the page shows 71 Items(or thereabouts) selected.
Click on that Download button, Download & Create an ISO and then Open and allow the application to install.
Yes, how is your Broadband connected to your laptop?0 -
Should say yes completed MCE download but haven't got round to WinRAR, wanted to wait until I heard from you. Do you still want me to go ahead with WinRAR?
I have managed to save list of drivers in Documents but not sure if that was after I saved all my files!
PS Just read addition to your previous post. Will go and do that now, thanks0 -

Haven't gone any further than that.

What are you talking about? What size is the MCE file? You can double click to install WinRAR and you should already have ImgBurn installed.

Donnie, just ignore last post. I had edited it but now I know from this I have still to install WinRAR and yes I have ImgBurn installed.
Still in process on downloading & burning drivers, split into two lists to be able to download total list. Will let you know when I've got all this organised.0 -

Okay, downloaded all drivers with "download & Create an ISO. Couldn't get the download to open it was showing"no files". Looked and found all data with all the wee symbols for drivers in downloads, used IMGBURN to create discs as done previously.
Could either closed or Donnie confirm that is okay to have done it that way. Discs completed successfully according to IMGBURN.
Also, I've been trying to connect to WinRAR for yonks but always times out. I will continue trying until I can get a connection.0 -

I could cry... did you install the Dell Download Manager? Plus you STILL haven't told me how you connect your laptop to the Internet.
As to WinRAR, it works perfectly.
Maybe I'll let someone else take over for a while.
Maybe it better if we go to PM and you CALL me.0 -
I have a feeling this machine is going to end up with W7 on.!!
