We'll continue when you have the time. In the meantime, continue using Windows Updates (and allowing them to install) until no more updates are offered.

As we discussed... ;) you need to go to the Device Manager (Flying Windows key + Pause Break key) > Hardware > Device Manager in order to check on which Drivers are missing. Those Yellow marks indicate no Driver installed.

How to install a new driver from Device Manager
Double-click the type of device you want to update or change.
*Right-click the specific device driver you want to update or change.
Click Update Driver to open the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the wizard instructions, allowing Windows to connect to the Internet to search for Drivers

*This might not be accurate. Maybe someone with XP installed can write a more accurate guide.

If after trying this with each and every missing Driver there are still some remaining not found, you will have to install them from the DELL website or your Driver discs.

This is where your Belarc report will come in handy, as you can match what hardware is installed to the specific Driver on the website needing to be installed.
It's a bit tedious, but you'll be most satisfied with yourself. :) I'll still help if you get stuck. You won't need most of the Drivers that you downloaded. Maybe just a few are missing.

Next.... we'll get your software up to date, as you'll be missing some of the software bundled with the DELL, such as Dell MediaDirect(Cyberlink PowerCinema) and Roxio Creator.

Is your MediaDirect button working? It should be, as MediaDirect is installed on a hidden partition.

If not, we may need to use this. Hope not though, as I have no experience of this utility. :)

Donnie - you have the patience of a saint. :T

This thread reminds me of the old techie joke where client phones Tech Support:

"What seems to be the problem?"

"I'm trying to install new software and it says press any key to continue but it won't work."

    "Why not?"

"I can't find the 'any' key on my keyboard"

    :rotfl:

Hi guys, here I am with an update eventually:p

All is well, pc all fixed and working 100%. Discovered when I was out the other night that one of my friend's nephews is actually a trained and qualified pc technician (wish I had known that long ago!). He was good enough to come round to my house and finish off the remainder of installations on the laptop.

Once again, I'd like to thank all of you for help and patience, especially Donnie as I really appreciate the help you gave me over the phone considering the time you took to help. You saved me a fortune!

Next time any of you guys see my username I bet you'll run a mile:rotfl::rotfl:
