MJ - I might have to disagree that one-off debit payments are not covered by the DD guarantee or simailar. Many years ago, I used my bank card over the phone to buy a laser printer for my company. The outfit I chose tried to claim more than authorised. My bank account didn't have that much in it so it failed. Immediately they tried for another higher sum and that failed so they then chickened out and took another amount that did go through. The printer didn't appear and the company did a runner. The bank refunded me without question.
My friend's cashback claim is currently in and has been acknowledged so we will see.
The fact that a bank will sort a problem out with a payment on a debit card is not the same thing. I doubt it would automaticaly be covered by the direcdt debit guarantee, where you are giving a third party the authority to call for any payment from your bank for any amount at any time they choose. As for your friend, all you will see is whether one claim gets paid or not; since most plainly are paid it isn't really an indication of much. As with other cpw companies, people were still jumping up to defend them for a time while others who had done the same discovered that it didn't count for much when a claim was selected for special treatment!0 -
Silk - Thanks for the info re the reorganisation. Interesting to know the reasons behind that. Did CPW think mobiles.co.uk were (a) too easy to get cashback or (b) too difficult !!!! Or too honest?????
I'm not sure I follow what you mean ???
The reorganisation will have been to do with closing one company and opening two both with new share prices etc when they were floated.
Don't forget Best Buy holds 50% of the shares as far as I can see the reorganisation was to do with boosting profits and seperating the companies makes it easier in the future to drop one of them or sell one!
What that has to do with thoughts about mobiles honesty I don't follow ???Originally Posted by Guys Dad
On the point about Ben's comments - (a) he did have some successes acknowledged by MSE members who posted and (b) he did admit liability and promised action, even when that failed to materialise. That did give the OP some hard evidence to use, should it have been necessary.
At the last count his success rate was something like 5% which means his failure rate was 95% and if you remember when he finaly acheived one even though it was dubious I commented that "one swallow does not a summer make" :rotfl:
I lost count of the number of times he promised action but when it failed to materialise what sort of hard evidence are we talking about here ???
Something that was mentioned on a "chat forum" by someone who didn't want to give his "name or position in the company" what sort of hard evidence is that :rotfl:
In fact some of the stunts he pulled were a disgrace and if you look at the history of the threads he was given more chances than most to set things right but failed. Everything is there on the threads and if you look at them with anything other than rose coloured spectacles you will see them.
If someone put themselves in the firing line don't get too upset or concerned when a few bullets start hitting the mark !!!It's not just about the money0 -
I'm also not sure why the "success" of Parliament's etiquette - shown up recently to great effect - is held up as a better way than calling a liar a liar when the evidence is in black and white. Or possibly we should allow everyone who is blatantly dishonest to hide behind a protective veil.0

The fact is that as a result mainly of MJ and Silk posts - with a couple of others, - the mobiles.co.uk rep isn't on here any more.
Does that make things better? Obviously "No"
Did some of his offers, some of which may not have materialised, provide better written evidence for MSE members should they have had to challenge mobiles.co.uk in court? I suggest "Yes".
Until recently, their reputation for settling eventually was not that bad - a couple, yes. Main gripes were about slow payment. But there seems to have been a change in their strategy now - or maybe just a coincidental series of posts on their refusal to honour claims.
Silk wrote "There have been a lot of changes over the last few months regarding CPW and mobiles.co.uk.
CPW have dissolved the old company and started another having split the assets of Talk Talk etc etc. The MD has left mobiles.co.uk back in Feb or March and from what I can gather there has been several changes ............."
That is more worrying. Have they decided to face the economic challenges of 2010/2011 by trying to renege on a higher percentage of cashbacks under the new MD?
Now if Ben or his successor was still contributing, these are the sort of questions that we could put to him. At least his answers might have been "interesting".
Certainly Silk's post count had suffered as a result of Ben's disappearance! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
The changes to CPW are to do with the demerger of Talktalk from the main cpw group - hardly surprising a few directors might move around - I have not seen who has moved or to be honest care. I don't know what the significance of such changes is to anyone getting a phone from mobiles co?
No doubt the rep is probably fed up with being called a liar continuously, having to repeat the same thing over and over again whilst a few people run their personal vendetta on this forum against cpw as a whole.0 -
They ordered a PAYG phone and they received the wrong one, plus they were overcharged by £9
It seems to me that you have a claim under the banks' guarantee for Direct Debits. .
It's a PAYG phone ? No direct debit was used ?
They were charged for delivery when it stated delivery was free ( even then they got the delivery price wrong ).
Payment was via credit card.0 -

Actually, yes!

Wow! And the evidence for them settling eventually beforehand is...?? Other cpw companies had a fantastic record until they made a conscious decision (almost three years ago now) to ignore t&c - in fact, make them up to suit themselves as they dealt with each claim). Reps only appeared for them (as with all cpw companies) when the proverbial hit the fan. Their sole purpose - as here - was to try to pull the wool over the unsuspecting and those - like you - who are always willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Not worrying in the least. It is in fact a laughable "worry"! The truth is they will always treat their customers with utter disdain as long as they gain succour and credence on public sites like this one.
It's quite simple; the rep was a mere deflection to stop people enforcing their legal rights by trying to reassure and placate without usually doing anything worthwhile. That set up a false impression for those who weren't customers (like you at that time) and put people off actually standing their ground. I have encountered a few problems but each time I have immediately taken the proper action and got a swift result. Had I messed around on here seeking the rep's help I may well have been unsuccessful and would have wasted an awful lot of time. Therefore I do not regard the dishonest statements and false promises as in the least productive or positive. Far better to help thiose in trouble by giving precise and direct help and advice without regard to the games cpw companies usually try to engage in. That's a lesson learnt over many years with many cpw clones - including this one. People would do well to take that approach and not worry about whether the rep is or is not on here. Personally, I don't give a monkeys either way. I would have done had he proved to be honest and sincere - but he was clearly the opposite. The numerous problems which are now arising can be dealt with far more effectively and quickly than before - and the unwary are getting a much clearer impression of what this company is like. THAT has to be good!0 -

Instead of having some rep giving excuses, telling tall tales, creating delays, making false promises and pretending something is being done about the problem means advice can be given to sort the problems out unhindered.Originally Posted by Guys Dad

However based on the attitude of care for the customers I doubt it's going to be high on any agenda's they may have
I think the CPW empire is too busy sorting out it's Big Box, Best Buy and Hip logic stuff at the moment to be concerned about a few CS and cashback problems with mobiles.co.uk so what difference is Ben's thoughts going to make to the price of fish ???It's not just about the money0 -
