thanks all .... well today hubby had his first hypnotherapy session not done by me might i add .... i have told him my role is as a wife just now not a therapist and i dont want to know anything unless it is as a wife ...

it seemed to go good he feels more in control of his drinking he thinks the problem may be the super lagers ... so to test his theory we went out for dinner and he had a lager (of the normal variety) and has came home and said he will have a few more just a few ... we will see .... his chest pains are agony but he has finally found painkillers that work for him so that is a good thing ...

other than that not been up to much couldnt go for a walk today as i have been helping hubby with things to try and ease his pain etc

So what exactly is a super-lager? I have this vision of underpants on the outside of the tin...

Honestly El, (and you can tell me to keep my beak out because I don't know what I am talking about), do you really think that by swapping "normal" strength lager for the superstrength stuff is going to do the trick? That is like me saying I will eat bite size mars bars instead of full size ones. OK, I could be really strong and just have one small bite size mars bar to satisfy my craving......or I could eat a whole bag ful of them because at the end of the day it is chocolate, and I don't notice that I have eaten several already.....

I truly hope he sorts things out - but as you say, it sounds as though it is not something he is doing for himself at this time, which is not going to work long term.

    xx

Oh El, what an awful situation for you .... it sounds like you're very close to finding it unbearable :grouphug:

Like Hypno tho, I'm concerned for how sustainable it is, if, even when he's in agony, he's swapping superstrength for normal strength. I know that when I was a heavy drinker, I had to stop completely, for about four years - I shocked myself after one binge, by not being able to hold a coffee cup, and I woke up - we'd call it my LBM these days. When I slowly started drinking again, I found that I could only drink maybe two glasses of wine before I felt really bad. But I really needed that complete gap, even tho I wasn't formally an alcoholic. :grouphug:

i totally agree with you hypno and no i dont think you are being nosey or want you to keep your beak out ... i think it is all a process tbh .... he says he is going to get control of it he wants to cut it right down but he also knows it isnt going to be easy so right now he is thinking (HE) that if he can manage to cut down and not get so wasted and if he drinks ordinary lager which bags him up ... hopefully he will be able to slowly give it all up ... i dont honestly know if it will work i do know i have been here several times before and it hasnt ... i also know that i will not live my life as the wife of an alcoholic .... i have a great life that i love and am passionate about so i will not sacrifice my happiness ... but i would so love to have my husband (who i totally adore ) beside me on my journey and if it means i support him to change then i will ... but he has to change ... and only he can do that

my main problem with the drink (for me ) is two fold ... number one ... hubby gets so out of his face it isnt either safe or healthy for him (both short and long term) ... number two.... my hubby has occasionally put his alcohol before me ... we may have made plans to do something but he has decided to get wasted instead ... and that is not on for me

thing is hubby likes a drink and i have to admit i can see the pull of having a cold lager whilst on the verandah reading a book on a bright bright sunny warm day ... i dont have a problem with that and truth to tell hubby wants to be able to enjoy that side of alcohol consumption which is why he is trying what he is today
