ok, for a starters if you buy a second hand item and it has an engraing on it i don't think that is enough grounds to pursue a claim in the county court as it does not affect the the functionality of the item and so it would still be classed as fit for purpose.

secondly publishing your home address and bank details is out of order. You could of course return the favour here.

a little bit of digging on my part shows that the owner of av forums also appears to be the same person who owns globalgold.co.uk, globalgold is a registered uk company, for a couple of quid you should be able to find out the directors name and home address aswell as every other company he owns.

Why not point out that if he allows your personal details to be published you will publish his prsonal details here on a site which gets (i believe) over 7 million hits a month (surely much more than his little site) and attracts alot of media attention and that you will list every company he owns advising people not to deal with them as the owner can not be trusted to handle personal financial information in a responsible manner.

Lets see what he thinks to having a dose of his own medicine.

its just such a typical scam though, ask for a refund without returning the item, then ask for a partial when thats refused!

I wouldn't give in but obviously up to you.

You should have mentioned the engraving though.

Shame i was up for paying the couple of quid myself and getting this guys details and exposing him for the irresponsible bully he really is.

I mean, would you do business with any company if you knew the director had a history of posting sensitive finacial details in an open forum?

You could do him far more damage than he could do you. a link from MSE to your site usually gets first page visability on google so right below his company website he could end up with a link exposing his irresponsible use of peoples financial details, enough to kill his business.

EDIT: you do realise too that this is a very old scam, buy something, demand a refund before sending the goods back or failing that a partial refund usually by way of some kind of threat whereby the buyer gets to keep the item but pays a very reduced price for it.

The scammer then goes and resells the item at full price and bags a nice profit at your expense.

I'd fight back and if you want to do that i'll help you, once we get this guys details we may even be able to include a nice mug shot of him curtousey of facebook if he's registered.....i know how to play dirty too and i'm sure i'm more than a match for this little bully...what do you say? wanna take the fight to him? it's your call i understand if you don't want to but i hate seeing people get scammed like this.

Dont its a scam you lose the money and the ipod.

They arnt leagal allowed to publish your details data protection act, if they do then the web site in not genuine any how. Threaten to sue for damages.

I wouldnt be giving a refund as some one else said grow some balls and stand up for your self, either that or send me £30 also ;-)

Put us out of our misery.... What was engraved on the back??

Seems that it isn't just the cheesed off seller with a grump on, but the Mods of the forum too.

I can see their point, scammers are everywhere, there is little point in finding a scammer and simply banning the username
They would simply create another one and carry on scamming

The address and bank details are to ensure that even with a revised username, it is likely the rest of his details will be recorded so would be a good place to search before doing business.

However, I do think only partial details should be given out, not the whole account numbers/address
