    Hello diary :)
Managed to make a pot of minestrone soup last night, so currently having some for my lunch, mmmm! It;s the receipe from Nigella Express, I'd really recommend it, it takes 5 minutes to make, only has 4 ingredients (tomato pasta sauce, can of mixed beans, stock and soup pasta!) and is a great storecupboard standby.

Jody, have you tried a pizza with a bbq sauce base? they're lush(especially dominos ones, though they might put something addictive in them! or that's my excuse anyway!) I'm not mad keen on tomato bases, unless it's really thin like pizza express. When we make homemade pizzas we mix some tomato pasta sauce with BBQ sauce 1:1, and use it to top the pizzas.

I've been thinking a lot about receipes recently, as DH's stepsister is about to go off to uni for the first time, so I made her a receipe binder for Christmas last year and have been giving her cooking lessons on and off this year. I think my tomato pasta sauce is the thing I make most often, and have the most uses for, so it's great that it's sooo economical (especially with basics tomatoes :p) and low calorie. As well as pasta, pizza, and the minestrone soup above, we use it to top chilli burritos for baking in the oven, and as a base for curry sauces etc.
What receipes are your great storecupboard faves?

Don't know yet - it was just a quick call as they're going away for a long weekend (and she had 4 of us to ring plus parents and friends!) and a lot of it was filled up with squealing and descriptions of the ring! :rotfl:
Am seeing her on Monday, so will find out then and report back ;)

For your amusement, here's my engagement story though: It was the day after our friends' wedding. We went into York city centre for a bit of touristy stuff before driving home. We were planning to go to Jorvik, but the queue was sooo long that we just went for a wander in the shops instead. As we passed a jewellers that had a sale on I slowed down to look in the window, and A said "so do you want to buy a ring then?" I said yes, and that was as romantic as it ever got :rotfl:
The ring had to go to be adjusted, and I thought that he might do a proper proposal when it arrived, but he just chucked me the box and said "there you go"!
I said to him a few months later, that it would have been nice to have a proper proposal, and a bit of fuss, and he said, "well, it was all decided by then, no point in asking a question that's already been answered!" Men! :D
He proudly told this story during his wedding speech! At least it got a few laughs :rotfl:

Ooh another wedding! Congrats to your sister too :j

Your engagement story did make me chuckle a little (sorry!), men just don't understand the importance of these things do they :rotfl:. I agree with Choc though that is the significance of the occasion that matters, not necessarily how it's done.

I would like to think that if the time comes my OH would think of a nice romantic way to do it but as he can barely organise getting up in the morning I think it is more likely to just be very random, probably just while I am washing up or similar

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

I should add that I didn't really mind that DH didn't organise something special, I was just so excited to get engaged! I feel like I've made him sound unromantic, but it is a funny story! He's often quite romantic in other ways, he writes me a haiku poem for our anniversary every year :smileyhea

    Afternoon Diary :)
Been for a short run, not much good today. I went home for my tea last night, and my aunt and uncle are doing a no-carbs diet. We had a lovely dinner of salmon and roast veggies, but I was hungry again before I went to bed, starving this morning, ate a massive bowl of porridge at 7, but was hungry again when I got to work at 815! Suffice to say my legs didn't have much go, I'll have to avoid running after having tea at home until they start eating carbs again!:rotfl: Am currently eating some minestrone soup, so hopefully the pasta will rev me up a bit!
not much else to report, hoping to get most of the pre-move sorting done this weekend, and get some new shoes. That's about it!

Am going to weigh in tomorrow morning, hope I will have lost a bit this week, as have been running 3 times, and been having very diety meals.

    Morning Diary :)
Feeling very chilled out after a relaxing long weekend. Didn't get up to much on Saturday and Sunday, except a quick trip to the supermarket, and dinner with some friends on Saturday night. Managed to use my Gourmet Club card, which I got from the MSE tips email a few months ago, so got half our main courses free, and feel like I've made back the £1 I paid for it!

Had a lovely family BBQ at home yesterday, the whole extended family was there, so 12 grown ups plus 2 small nieces. Niece no1 was in full show off mode with so many aunties and uncles to play up to and niece no 2 was just lovely and cuddly, she's 8 months, and *nearly* crawling - she can only go backwards which makes her a bit cross :rotfl:, but she's lovely and smiley most of the time.

Got to see sister no2's engagement ring, it's a massive rock about 2ct on a platinum band, it's lovely :). No firm wedding plans yet, other than using the same church as the rest of us have, around May - June next year. Sister no1 was looking very preggers, haven't seen her for a few months and she's only got 5 weeks left to go now and only 4 days left at work to her great relief!

Generally lovely weekend, I do like a bit of time spent sitting around drinking tea, gossiping and eating copius amounts of cake. :D
