  • "that explains it.. i have to alter my prices twice a day do to zoverstocks and our 1p lower wars.. i tried to do it same price but they still lower theirs by 1p.. "

waste of time going against zoverstocks, they'll go down to zero. a few times I've gone against them and then bought his stock.

no point having a price war against zoverstocks, i always
highlight my customer service ie that i

"guaranteed next working day despatch unlike my rival sellers (check out z's feedback) "
  • music magpie is brilliant for selling classical and early 80's CDs
they pay £3 a time on certain types of CD, i buy from my local independent music shop for 5p or 10p when they have a sale on. its also worth buying boxlots at carboot sales.

i couldnt agree more if i'm honest. i first had a wee look at music magpie as i had discs lying around that i wanted rid of. and even with the classics (the godfather) i was offered a maximum of about £1.20! even old games are about 30p. CDs i found were worth a fair bit more but still not anything worth shouting about. That being said, i'll happily send them my old CDs and DVDs. I don't need them. They're only gonna clutter my shelves otherwise. imagine you sell them 50 things and they are all 30p. thats 15 quid. which, really, is sweet FA for 50 of anything! but its better than a kick in the teeth. thats a few pints right there  a dinner for one. a lunch for 2. so i very very much agree that its a complete scam on their part, i think 15 quid for getting rid of things with minimal effort is pretty good. we've got to think positive people! :P

I just banged a few CDs into MM to see what I could get - 31 CDs came to £23.31 - actually more than I thought - I'd read about the 30p average. I did get a lot at 30p, but a few over pound and one at... £2.29!!
music magpie is non other than amazon / play.com seller

    "Zoverstocks"

:p This explains a lot - those !!!!!!s are always undercutting - I managed to watch a couple of DVD box sets on Marketplace and sneak in to sell when they didn't have the item I had on sale

ETA: oops, sorry - found this thread in a search - didn't think to check which forum it's in (i.e. not really the right one lol)

I know this is bumping an old thread, but just because music magpie offer £23.31 doesn't mean you will get that

Have you read their terms and conditions?

Please note the following important rules when selling us your CDs, DVDs or Games ! 1. The disk must be in the right case. 2. The disk must NOT be a copy or pirate disk. 3. The disk must NOT be cracked or have dents, deep scratches or other serious damage to it.
(light surface scratches are usually accepted) 4. All the original packaging must be present (including the artwork and booklet where relevant) 5. The cover, the disc artwork and/or the sleeve notes are defaced in any way. 6. The packaging must be in good condition. Cases may have light scratches, but booklets and artwork need to be free from tears, stickers and other major blemishes. 7. We only accept Trades from the UK. 8. Please also ensure that the barcode you enter is the same as the barcode on the item. If you enter a different barcode, or the item itself does not have a barcode, we reserve the right to reject the item. 9. Any Game that does not have all the original instruction booklets in addition to the original art work.
Please note that if you do not follow the above criteria we will unfortunately be unable to accept the item. When this happens, we reserve the right to not pay you for the item and we will also not be able to return the item, so please ensure you follow these guidelines. Full details are contained in our terms and conditions.

So unless you send them something in PERFECT condition, they can refuse to pay you. Keep your item and then choose to resell it anyway and you can't do jack !!!! about it

Don't waste your time with them. Go to a carboot sale, you'll make money the same way

I've sent hundreds of things to them of mixed quality and only 3 or 4 have been rejected. Granted, these ones had quite deep scratches on them, so I guess that's fair enough. The rest of the items - some were in mint condition, some had cracked cases, and some light scratches, I was paid for these no questions asked.

They score 96% on Feefo, most of the negs being speed of payment and low valuations (Even though they accepted the offers made!). Reading Magpie's replies to these, it looks like they are going to start using BACS soon, which should shave off the time it takes to print the cheques and post them out (A week by the looks of it).

The fact remains that they are a huge company now (TV ads et al) so if they were cheating on not paying out fairly and properly then we would have heard it already, most likely from Anne Robinson herself!

Possibly, but there's no defence you have against it. It's in the terms and conditions. They don't agree they don't have to pay

I'm still tempted to try them. I've got probably 200-300 cd's I wouldn't mind dumping away

  • music mapie buys cds dvds games to resell at their retail end of the business trading as 'That's Entertainment' - stores can be found at such places as mcarthur glenn outlets and other out of town sites. They used to trade as music zone.

It's a bit shocking that they can choose to not accept games and cds and then simply keep them for themselves.
There are alternatives out there but not many for cds and dvds.

    CDs

    Musicmagpie.co.uk

    DVDs

    Musicmagpie.co.uk
    Webuydvds.co.uk

    Videogames

    Musicmagpie
    Tradeyourgames.co.uk
    Swapgame.com

Out of most of these, they have the same terms and conditions that say that they can keep the games and cds if they do not meet their criteria.

Tradeyourgames does offer to send the games back at the cost but I am not sure how much they would charge but at least they offer to send games back if they dont meet testing criteria. I've used Musicmagpie for some cds and dvds, and used tradeyourgames for games that were more in value than on musicmagpie and had no issues with either

Both do take a bit of time to send the cheques though.
  • Have just been completely ripped off by webuydvds. I sent 39 DVD,s to them on 30th July and as of today I still havent received a penny. Originally they said they hadnt received them now they are saying they have only received 25. I for one will NEVER EVER deal with these people again
