Hey All

Decided today with the wonderful world of technology and lack of space i would sell my vast collection of DVD's !!

I went onto Music Magpie where 7 of my special edition discs would have netted me a miserable £5.00

Is there any sites online that actually offer you a reasonalble price for your discs ?

  • Unfortunately the prices are based on the popularity of the DVD/CD. So rare ones get quite a lot and hit albums/classic films are £1-3 each.

I know SwapShop.co.uk and CEX do the same thing, you might get a better deal from them. Or even on Amazon marketplace where you can set the price.

They are in business, and the only way they will stay in business is if they turn a profit.

They were quite up-front and told you how much they would pay, and you didn't like what they offered.

You would ~probably~ get more on eBay, but you then have to factor in the aggravation, plus the risk that you might (after all the fees) end up with even less than they offered you.

you have to remember that CD's dont carry the same kind of protection that dvd's and games do, remember when sony tried it and it wouldnt play on a lot of music systems? companies that buy CD's know this, i bought the last now album ripped the music from the cd's and went to cex to get a price, i was given £2 for it.

    Hey All

Decided today with the wonderful world of technology and my shiney new TV haveing USB! i was going to transfer my dvd collection to a hard drive to free up space and make some cash

You haven't paid anything for Music Magpie's service, you haven't bartered or traded anything in exchange for their service.

All you seem to have done is ask them what they are willing to pay for your second-hand discs, and they've responded.

In business terms, they've 'given you a quote/estimate' which you are free to accept or decline.

And once you get rid of the original discs you are not allowed to keep your digital "back-up" copy any more.
  • Really upsets me im sitting with over 600 dvds that now need a home as they really do take up way to much room.... they have all been looked after extremely well ..... to find out that you are going to get stung.... think i must have spend a couple of grand on them to be offered pennies by a company that clearly is going to make a large return on them

I wouldn't post such things in an open forum. It might be questionable whether it's legal to save your DVD's to your hard disk. But it's for sure illegal to sell the DVD's afterwards and keep the copy.

Not bad for your first post...

[TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] sometimes it is like a slap in the face with the prices these companies give you. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]

best suggestion, take all the stuff you want to sell, plus some other bits and bobs, go to a car boot sale and set up, that way your in control or what you want to sell them for, and if people arent interested, barter with them :)
