I made this bear cake for my daughters 1st birthday last November
This year I want to make her a waybuloo cake. Something like this but without 3D characters. Im not that adventurous so probably just 2D ones on top of it
What kind of icing should I use? I always get confused by the different names and types.

Wow these are amaizing cakes. Can I ask please how you made the icing so smooth. I am about to attempt to make a postman pat van, I have the recipe and i am covering the van in red icing I will obviously have to cut round the van leaving edges and i wondered what was the easiest way to re-connect them back together so you couldnt tell. Also on a later post you said that your writing was made from tappits and i ask what these are?
Many thanks0 -

Hi Ladies
Just a quick question when you all make your figures did you all teach yourself through trial and error or from books? Really want to try to make one have looked on youtube they make it look so easy but use a large range of tools is it really that simple?
I just bought some blocks of the roll out icing.....and just played about really - its just a bit like when you're young and making things from plasticine/play-doh/fimo. So long as you use cornflour to stop it sticking to the bench I just use my hands and a cocktail stick to poke holes or push around any little bits like eyes. I use glycerine to stick the bits together and just use one of those silicone pastry brushes to dust with cornflour when i'm leaving them out to harden up & dry up, and use the brush to dab them with jam or glycerine to shiny them up again the next day to go on the cake.0 -
Hi Ladies
Thanks for your replies think I will have to take the plunge and have a go at the figures once the icing has been opened will is stay fresh so it can be used again? and I have just started icing with butter icing and have bought a syringe icing set I have seen on ebay lots of metal nozzels which I would like to buy but they can only be used on disposable or cloth bags do all bags have cuplers with them and what is the best bag to buy disposabel or cloth.
Thanks0 -

Hi I found this thread which may help you https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/310654
I get my icing smooth by using a cake smoother and just keep smoothing the fondant over and over until I'm reasonably happy with it;) Tappits are just alphabet cutters, I bought mine from here http://www.lindyscakes.co.uk/OnlineShop-FMMCutters.htm (I got the script alphabet set) they are a bit fiddly to use but after watching a couple of utube videos on how to use them it got a bit easier;)Feb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)
