TPA I have been doing quite a lot of swimming recently. I should go out running but don't like going on my own and OH is too busy at the mo to go with me.

I signed up to that foodfocus website yesterday and played about with some of the activities on there to see how many calories they burnt. I was under on my calories yesterday so I guess that is a good thing.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I'd love to say I resisted the temptation yesterday to pop into Lidl and buy the twelve mini ice cream things that are on offer at the moment but I had to be pretty much literally dragged away from the freezer area! All the better for it today as I've now only got the three pounds to shift. I think it might only be 2.5lbs as my (missed) Wii Fit goal this morning was 22.64 but with a 3lb loss in the next fortnight I'll get to 22.57.

TPA - I now absolutely swear by the Wii Fit, My Fitness Coach and EA Active (with a wee bit of Mario and Sonic at the various Olympics). It's a lot of flapping about in the living room but doing things like the 20 day challenge on EA Active sees the weight absolutely drop off. I found the best thing for me last year when I shed all the weight was the daily body test on the Wii Fit. Weekly weighing (to my mind anyway) gives me the option to cheat straight after the weigh in and then claw back the damage of a takeaway or a few drinks. Daily weighing gets you into the mindset of "having that doughnut will get me in trouble with the Wii Fit tomorrow". This from someone who completely gutted the spare room to put a gym in that we managed to ignore most of the time!

I also got wrist weights, ankle weights and a weight vest for when I go out walking. That helped shift a load but I don't think it's right for everyone. Any ligament or tendon damage will be exacerbated and I'm told that continually wearing them will cause joint pain going forward. I'm off them all now - mainly as I haven't got the body mass to manage the weight vest anymore - but they worked a charm for me.

    Cheers,

    Billy

    Well done everyone! :T

What sorts of things to you like?
    - Are there any sports you used to do that you'd like to try again?
    - Are there any fitness/ sports/ swimming pools/ church hall/ community School facilities near you that have classes, gyms or clubs that appeal to you?
    - Do you have a bike or anywhere you feel comfortable walking?
    - What about couch to 5k running?
    - Do you have a Wii?
    - Do you have room for any fitness equipment eg rowing machine/ bike/ eliptical?

For May I upped my walking from almost non existant :o to walking an equivalent of a marathon over the month (which I beat and did 50miles in total over the month). This month I'm trying to diversify it a bit so I've started doing other stuff instead/as well as the walking.

This is what I'm up to this week...

Monday - workout DVD* (30 mins, before work), walk (35 mins)
Tuesday - Beginners Pilates DVD** (45 mins, before work), walk (10mins)
Wed - Beginners Pilates DVD** (45 mins, before work),
    Today - Skating 1.5 - 2 hrs
Friday - Workout DVD* (30mins, before work), possibly walk (~30 mins)
    Saturday - nothing planned yet...
    Sunday - Skating 1.5hrs

    * Workout DVD - Rebecca Wheatley's one... It is about the right level for me - unfit beginner with no co-ordination! :p (I have another DVD too but I can't even make it through the warm up! :o :rotfl:).
** Beginners Pilates DVD was Free with the daily mail a while ago - it goes through the moves and how to do them rather than a full workout). I'm using it to try and build some core strength/flexibility. I also have a more advanced one but again it is too advanced for me right now! :o

These DVDs get done before work as after work once I'm home I slump and can never motivate myself to do them!

I try to walk part of my journey home from work, home from the cinema, to or from town, to/from a further away than I normally go to supermarket etc (10-40 mins) and sometimes manage a 1.5-2hr walk at the weekend (sometimes with my Mum) but thats rather weather dependant! I've just worked out that the circuit round where I work is a mile long (~20 mins) so I may try walking that at lunchtime sometimes if I have a decent length of time for lunch.

I've also thought of joining a Zumba class as it sounds great fun but I think I might leave that till autumn-ish when the weather is a bit more rubbish and I'll struggle to make myself walk places in the rain! I'm hoping my fitness will have improved a bit more by then too so I don't collapase in a heap trying it! :rotfl:

I'm thinking of buying some kind of fitness equipment for my home autumnish too as I'm currently too heavy for most home equipment. :o

Wynnvegas - What do you need to do the My Fitness Coach and EA Active on the Wii? Do you need a balance board or any other equipment or is it just a Wii and the game?

    Congratulations :D

I took up running at the end of January, using the Couch to 5K program:

    http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

There are free podcasts you can download via iTunes or the Podrunner website which tell you when to walk and when to shuffle a bit faster (you couldn't call what I was doing at the start of it 'running' by any stretch of the imagination :rotfl:)

Six months on and I have my first 10K race in a fortnight. I started doing it as a cheap way to get fit and have now got hooked.

Taka Thanks for the link to foodfocus on the first page. I may be obsessing when I put the info in but after my exercise today and all my food, we have just had a take away for dinner, I still have around 400 calories to eat. I am busy at the weekend and won't be able to exercise much but I am stock piling the spare ones for then. I love checking back and it telling me that I can still eat more. I LOVE this site :D

My plan is to teach myself to stop swimming like a girlie with my head out of the water (it really hurts my neck). If I'm awake in morning early I may go to pool at 6.30 , otherwise will be wiifit :)

Good going Taka on the exercise. I was looking at the times you spend doing it. I really have to think a bit laterally as i don't get 2 minutes alone most of the day, and by the time the kids go to bed and i have cooked dinner it can easily be 9pm. The only exercise DVD i own is one with strictly come dancings whats her name. Last time i tried it was when DS1 was at that cruising stage and every time i danced past him he tried to hold himself up on me, so it didn't work. I was going on the trampoline with the kids, but i need to find something else at the minute as my hayfever means i can't breathe if i do that now.

So i am stuck with the exercise bike, and even that is dodgy. I managed to hit DS1 in the head with my knee when he got it in the way. I was so mean. I didn't even stop and said oh well, mummy needs to do her cycling and you shouldn't be in the way. At nearly 4 he should be big enough to know. Then DS2 always wants to sit on my knee.

I'll have to keep thinking. Trouble is i can't even get up earlier than them as they wake between 6 and 7, and are in that light sleep phase where they wake if we get up earlier than that.
