Did you ask him to show you exactly what it says in the leaflet which he imagines justifies his position?lynzpower wrote:this has happened to me too. I kicked off a bit in the post office I have to say.
Im a green metropolis seller, so I cant alter the postage rates charged IYSWIM
Paperback books usually send at between 65-85p the usual is 74p, yesterday I got charged 1.37 for one. the day before I sent a smaller, ( shorter) heavier one and it was 1.01. both fitted through the large letter slot and fitted within the large letter box on thier plastic slide thing. I took issue as the first PO ( roman rd e3) i used allowed it as a large letter the second didnt. The PO yesterday ( bromley by bow) said that as its not "printed matter" then it cant be a letter. I argued of course its printed matter its a book. He got huffy and threw one of the leaflets at me, I said Ive already checked this on the slide, I dont know whats going on here but smells like a scam to me.
Im sending in brown paper, so theres no jiffy bag issue.
Im livid as I hve boxes of books on GM and Im sending about 4 a week at the mo, if I wasnt so skint, Id say its ot worth doing but money is money at the end of the day.
It sounds as though he is confusing the new system with the different categories for airmail, where for some bizarre reason, the content (e.g. whether it's a letter, printed papers or other "small packet") does actaully make a difference to the price.0 -
Well I was a bit huffy myself, but basically he said if its not a letter or a form then it cant go as a large letter.
I dont know, why the hell should I have to do peoples jobs for them?
I am uncharacteristically hopping mad about this, if it aint broke... Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I'm cross as well now
Took some packages to the PO today and was told they were packages. Trouble is some were exactly the same as went yesterday as a large letter..so how the flippin' eck am I going to know in future how much to charge?
The refusal today was on items that passed through the slot but didn't 'fall through', but the plastic bags themselevs sort of get static which sticks them. I'll have to take up the suggestion of someone (was it in here) who reckoned we should grease them

There is an article in the Evening Standard today about ways to make sure you get the cheapest postage. They say that posting items in seperate parcels rather than in one big parcel may work out cheaper. Their example is that 2 slim paperbacks posted in one envelope costs £2.20, but if you post them seperately it will come to £1.80 in total.0

I had the same thing happen with me yesterday. I managed to get this DVD jiffy through the hole but I got a bit forcefull
...cost =90p
Today 2 of the same items, I was not near a slot so the post office lady used her slot behind the desk without success, lets just say she gave up much easier than me  ....cost £1.70 each.
I bet someone will break the thing one day being forcefull and I would understand why.0 -
I just don't know how I am supposed to estimate my p and p if the same lady at the same PO has different rules on two different days. It made a lot of difference as well, 60 something pence yesterday but over £1.20 today.

I share your pain.
What I dont get is if it goes through the large letter slot on thier plastic board, can it ever be a package? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

It could still be a "package" if it exceeds the length or weight limits for "large letters"; otherwise, any domestic mail which goes through the slot should be posted at Large Letter rates.lynzpower wrote:Soo

I've yet to attempt to post an item whose thickness is borderline, so I'm not sure what my PO would say about that.0 -
with my extra on top for p&p i got mine right on the first batch of packages.
very proud of myself. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0
