Found an extremely helpful post lady this week, I had been going local and find them ignorant and useless in all honesty but this one was great, seperate receipt for each item for proof and she filled everything in. Some were 'stampable' but she put the post office labels on as she said with current new changes they are sorting quicker if they know the post office has checked them. Few miles away but worth travelling IMO. Most of my items have worked out cheaper with new rates or stayed the same as I have changed the packing.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

    WATCH OUT!!

I was in my local Sainsburys a couple of days ago and tried to buy some first class stamps. I noticed that the cover said "large" on it, so I gave them back to the girl and said that I didn't want the "large item" stamps, just the normal ones.

She told me that what she had given me was all they had.

I explained that these were for the new "large letter" size, she just looked at me as though I was speaking japanese and repeated that it was all they had.

Oh, and she couldn't give me a refund... I had to go to customer service for that.

So, watch out when you are buying books of stamps to make sure you are gettng what you think you are getting.

Went back to my local PO today as I've no time to walk into town. Refused my DVD in a little bubble wrap and a silver mailing bag as she heard it scrape on the side of the gauge...and charged me £1.39 second class...not happy as I had only quoted £1.30 for post *and* packing.

Fortunately, I just tell my local PO which category I want ie Large Letter or Packet and they believe me...lol Most of their business revolves round Ebay or Amazon these days and they arent about to upset their customers.

yeah we found when posting things from work a few things worked out cheaper... And we'd been rounding items up to the nearest combinations of first class and second class stamps so we were paying over, with the new first class large stamp we're saving lots!

Getting your stamps from shops seems to be problematic( at times), I dont know how many world wide stamps I seen used on postcards to Europe..... these are 50p each and they only need to spend 44p! Shops dont seem care ...they will sell what they have!!

mah....seemed to have strayed from the topic!

Has anyone weighed and measured their "packages" and worked out the cost at home and then just gone in with them marked with the price and asked for that value on each package?
I have done this many a time under the old system and never had it queried at the PO's I have been too.

I've not totally sure what the rules are but I thought if the item fits through the slot it will be classed as large letter, this makes sense right?

To me if it goes through it goes through, who cares if it scrapes the edges....is this not allowed?

I had a DVD that I fit through the slot today (with a little push), the guy behind the counter was being funny saying it won't go through. I mean they don't even try and push it proper, whats the crack with that?

Anyway I put up a protest and they let it go for a letter (55p). The packet rate would have been £1.09

Some post officers are a bit over zealous on enforcing and interpreting this rule. If it touches the sides in anyway then it's the next size up. Utterly ridiculous as at the size limit of 5mm or 25mm they of course will touch the sides! These post officers are basically setting the upper size limits at lower than the max allowed.
What kind of training have some post offices received, if any? Maybe they didn't get the new size guides yet like so many of us?!:p
