experiences of new postal rates

frivolous_fay - i wouldn't worry too much about refunds except for the £4.30 one..... I bought something from the US last week and was amazed when they refunded $2 because they had over-estimated postage costs!! I really didn't expect it! I always round postage up because it's just somehow more complicated to give an actual random amount.... and people do expect it to a degree.:happyhear0

I've overcharged a bit on postage... mainly due to the new pricing, and also not knowing how special delivery is priced! Could I please have your opinions on which of these people I ought to refund some money, bearing in mind I didn't spend any significant amount of money on packaging.

Oh, the guilt!!
i wish some buyers where as thoughtful as you, i sold an item almost 2 weeks ago, waited for buyer to pay and by the time payment was received postal charges had risen, P&P charged £4 actual cost £5.32, i've still not got the hang of this and keep undercharging mostly cos my scales are !!!!!! and also cos i feel mean if i charge too much and people might complain that my P&P seems costly.
Never had a buyer yet offer to pay the extra it's cost me on postal charge and not once have i ever covered the cost of packing into my P&P charges let alone made anything on it.
If you do refund anyone i think most if not all buyers will remember you and come back and buy from you again remembering their experience but i don't think you should feel guilty if you don't. The buyers bought seeing the costs and where happy with that charge

shocked - my postal bill up 100%. I am going to have to take anything less than £2 off amazon. I dont suppose amazon might change things to reflect these changes..?

They probably won't. You may find slim books are actually slightly cheaper to post, and CDs should fit within the Large Letter thickness limit (and if they don't with your current packaging, you can use different packaging), so you should probably check if any of your stuff can be posted as Large Letters before you remove any of your listings.Cats_pajamas wrote:shocked - my postal bill up 100%. I've just done my first mailing since the new system came in - 5 very different packages - and I have to say well done to my local PO :T
(Well, it's not actually my village PO cos the guy there is a prat so I go to the next village which has an excellent PO
)
The Postmistress was well prepared and had got her customers well prepeared also. Before the system became live, she would go through your mailings and explain how they would be charged under the new system - which was great because it gave me some idea of how to levy P&P on my new listings.
I had to post this because I'm a firm believer in local PO's - it's just a pity mine has a nincompoop in it :rotfl:0 -
Joto wrote:Why are you feeling guilty? I don't sell very much on Ebay, but have bought a lot in the past. The price of the postage and packing is clearly stated, I've always taken that cost into consideration when bidding and if I have thought the packaging was excessive I simply don't bid or I have emailed to ask why their cost is so expensive.
:T Me too

becky004 wrote:Not at all happy with the new system, posted 11 small paperbacks 2nd class, fitted through the "large letter" slot with bags of room. Was charged "packet price for all of them "as they were not letters"! Was charged £1.09 for 9 books that would have cost 74 pence before today and £1.39 for 2 which would have cost 86p before. Am going to try a different post office tomorrow!
this has happened to me too. I kicked off a bit in the post office I have to say.
Im a green metropolis seller, so I cant alter the postage rates charged IYSWIM
Paperback books usually send at between 65-85p the usual is 74p, yesterday I got charged 1.37 for one. the day before I sent a smaller, ( shorter) heavier one and it was 1.01. both fitted through the large letter slot and fitted within the large letter box on thier plastic slide thing. I took issue as the first PO ( roman rd e3) i used allowed it as a large letter the second didnt. The PO yesterday ( bromley by bow) said that as its not "printed matter" then it cant be a letter. I argued of course its printed matter its a book. He got huffy and threw one of the leaflets at me, I said Ive already checked this on the slide, I dont know whats going on here but smells like a scam to me.
Im sending in brown paper, so theres no jiffy bag issue.
Im livid as I hve boxes of books on GM and Im sending about 4 a week at the mo, if I wasnt so skint, Id say its ot worth doing but money is money at the end of the day. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Was very surprised to find almost all of my items are now CHEAPER to post!
Used to cost between 99p & £1.29 for the item I sell most, now cost me between 65p & 90p!
Do you think it's ok to still charge the buyer £1.50 as before?2025 - finally back comping after a stressful house move - send me fairy dust please0 -
