  • Royal Mail are going to make a lot of money from this, the complaints are going to be rife for a long time!

    Thanks for that :)
I wouldnt mind but all the ones that are due to be sent out over the next few days are ones that paid last week by cheque even though i had stated postal order only  They will definatly all be going 2nd class i think ;)

I don't blame you, if they complain just remind them about the postal increase.

There was also a small business guy who was arguing about his brochures. He insisted he had checked the depth and that was just about OK, but had overlooked the fact that his envelopes were a few millimetres outside the width and he wasn't allowed to send them without a large increase in costs. He was threatening to complain both to the post office, and to the supplier of the envelopes for selling 'standard' enevlopes only just too big to go as a large letter. He took his brochures back and I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't going to try a different post office.

    Soo

His company or he, should surely have known, heavens above foriegn tourists were asking me about it day! So he could/should have sussed it out before and not argue the odds at the PO counter! A bit of research is all that was required, we have all been deluged with this! However even if he had lived in an attic with out human contact and didn't know, I do hope he was not too argumentative!

Most birthday cards are fine, those with badges aren't! But there are others that are too long/wide /thick!
I have a pal who ordered christmas cards ages ago and now finds they are all large letters!!! ( so much for the organized!!;) )

Not been to PO yet although I will need to, came out of hospital on Friday & have 5 items paid for which I will have to pay the new rates for but the buyer has paid the old cost, hopefully the prices won't be much different.

Congratualtions on your new baby Yvonne!:j:j:T:T:T

I haven't made it to the post office yet - I can hardly wait!

On occasions I have used the online 'print your own postage' with the RM. how will this new pricing work on there? Are you supposed to measure each item yourself? How are the PO going to check every piece of mail to see whether it's correctly priced - this really will cause hassle for all concerned.
  • expect mailboxes across the land to fill up with those red invitational cards to visit the sorting office

They said on t.v. this morning it had cost ten million pounds in marketing the new rates etc.

    ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
  • I suspect there will also be an increase in complaints about damaged items, as people will send things like DVDs in the thinnest possible packing to make them fit large letter thickness, rather than use Jiffy bags.
Btw, Yvonne, congrats on the birth of your daughter. Hey, this is my thousandth post, yay!
  • I'm going to cut the minutest of corners off the poly bags to expel the air so I can flatten them.

A video which I think would normally have cost £1.14/£1.29 first class had gone up to £1.70 - a huge leap in price :(. It will have to be second class from now on - shame really - it is Ebay and Amazon which have saved the Post Office and now they are going to bite the hand that feeds it!
