After exchanging several e-mails with Tiscali trying to get a free upgrade to 1MB, I changed my account to the same 512kB but for £5 less a month.
Now need to wait and see if they accept it.Matched betting profits since 11/10/06 = £1,5540 -
Ummm...don't know what you mkean...
Do you mean you have upgraded without telling them? Or what? I don't understand how you can change your account without them accepting it!?
please help!Talon "Ace" Karrde

I went into 'my account' area and chose the 'upgrade/downgrade' option. This gave me two options 256kB or 512 kB. I chose 512kB which is my existing package but instead of paying £24.99/month I now only pay £19.99/month.
Checked my account data yesterday and it now says I am on 512kB/month for £19.99 saving me £5/month.Matched betting profits since 11/10/06 = £1,5540 -
Good on yer!
I just their reply. they won't give me the £15.99 1mb (2gb cap) due to "technical constraints" same damn excuse the originally gave me for not upgrading me to 256 from 150 which turned out to be a load of hogwash! They have said i can upgrade to 512mbs for 17.99pm!! that's 2 quid extra for double the speed!
Seems, with what you paying, and what they're offering me, and what they're offering newbies, they got one rule for every damn person depending on how much you challenge them/ cause them aggro!!
I might just keep mailing them about the 1gb until they get fed up and give in!!!!

I initially sent them an e-mail asking them whether they were going to upgrade me to 1MB for £25/month or keep me at 512kB for £19.99/month. They wrote back to say they wouldn't reduce the price but would upgrade me - waited two months, several e-mails and the odd phone call and no sign of 1MB so decided to go for the price reduction. There does seem to be loads of variation in prices for different speeds.Matched betting profits since 11/10/06 = £1,5540

I contacted Tiscali in the new year and was told that an upgrade (512 to 1MB) would be available in FEB05. I mailed them again at the end of Feb and agian in March asking for confirmation - NO REPLY.
With little prospect of getting the 1MB upgrade I decided to follow the advice on this board and effectyively downgrade my existing 512package @24.99 to the current rate automatically available to new clients (17.99)
I have now received a reply to my email telling me that I am alreday on the £19.99 package and that 1MB is not available with my exchange. I have run a check with Metronet and I looks like 1MB should be available. Sent them this response.
"Tiscali Support,
I have checked with an alternative ISP and have been advised that my telephone number is suitable to receive a IMB connection. Can you confirm you position that this sevice is not technically posssible with Tiscali.
You are correct that my current charge for 512 is at the "lower" new customer rate of £17.99 as I made the effort to investgate & downgrade my 512 package to trigger this price reduction. It would be reftreshing if Tiscali promoted new price package availability to their client base or better still switch your clients automatically."No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -

Just contacted tiscali. I thought I would do one of martin's ticks, I told them I wanted to cancel my Broardband connection for £19.99 pcm for 5x faster. i will have been with them for 1 year on 26/3/2005. I would put through to disconnection department, who very kindly offered me the below 2 deals.
The same deal for £14.99pcm (5x faster)(saving me £5.00pcm)
OR
10 x faster for £15.99 (saving me £4.00pcm)
I have always been happy with tiscali, was with them for dail-up initially, so I took option 2, £12 pa dearer than option 1, but still a saving of £48.00 pa.Lic.0 -
I guess it's a move in the right direction if we get our existing broadband packages at a lower cost or dial up upgrades for marginal on costs.
But if new custonmers are being provided with 1MB connections whilst those who have been with tiscali for some time are being fobbed of with excuses about technical issues then this is not on.
Has anyone a definitive answer?
I know Tiscali getws a bad press, but personally I have not had an issue with them until know.No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
lic,
so you now have a 512kbs connection for 15.99 pm? why would they think anyone would go for half that speed for only a quid less? How is it not sensible to get twice the speed (512kbps) for only a quid more per month!
I just got a mail back from them after i asked for my MAC number and BT base product (the details you need to migrate to another ISP) and they told me they don't support migration. So basically i'll have to cancel them, and then sign up again...which means a wait of 7 to 10 days between broadband connection, but worst of all, another hefty connections charge, whereas most isp's if you migrate to them just charge a small admin, say a tenner.
I am writing back asking why i have been advised that the 15.99 offer for 512kbps is available to current customers, so why not me!!Talon "Ace" Karrde

A migration connection charge should be avoidable. I've just left Tiscali, and the line is yet to be shut down, which apparently takes 10-14 days before I can then order another broadband service. AOL have told me that I can simply use their dial-up free trial as an interim measure, then sign-up for broadband once the line's been cleared at the exchange.0
