scheming_gypsy wrote:if you want to upgrade quicker just go to your account and upgrade from there. My free upgrade date is end of March, could have it done tomorrow but the price is £19.99 instead of the 17.99 i'm paying now.
one question though.. how can you tell how much you've downloaded to see if it's worth going capped ?
You can check your usage in the Manage you account section of "My account".0 -
bob on.. seeing as i used just under a gig from 17/11/04 - 17/12/04 i think i'll upgrade from 256k to 1mb 2g capped and save myself £2 a month0

Can someone please tell me how many , mb to 1 gig i cant quite grasp it!
i used the internet in a month upload 23.340mb download 117.379mb is this well under 1 gig thanks in advance0 -
Yeh thats way under 1gb, and tiscali allow you 2gb, so you'll be fine. 1gb = 1000mb, and you only used 117 so no worries there.0

I also had one of the standard emails about local exchange. Having read this thread I emailed the Tiscali broadband support team and said it wasn't acceptable, that i wanted upgrading now and if not that I would leave when my first year of broadband use finishes soon.
To their credit, within about 6 hours they emailed to say all was sorted, now on the higher speed and apologised for the problem.
Whilst the problem shouldn't have arisen in the first place, I think their response to my intervention to be first class

'They cannot upgrade because of technical reasons' strikes me as a lame excuse. Have you checked out your line yet?Try http://www.metronet.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker and see if they are pulling a fast one.Down south where, unfortunately, the government does remember us.0

I have checked the line several times and do seem to running at the quoted speed, a little above several times, a little under once. Certainly web pages are opening faster than before so it all seems ok ftb.
Tiscali did ask me to take a series of readings and report this back to them with references etc so they seem to be taking it seriously.0 -

Yeah, this is something most of us affected Tiscali customers have done, and in almost all cases, broadband speeds of at least 1MB were possible.0 -
i too got the "exchange problem" email, but have just checked my speed and appear to be running 250mbps, whereas i was on 150mbps before. yet the last communication i got from then was a reduction of a quid on my monthly bill. i wonder whether i still got that AND upgraded?
I shall be emailing them to ask for an upgrade anyway, and see what happens with my bill!
