Incidentally, as a slight aside, if you've been a subscriber of Tiscali for 12-months or more, can you upgrade from say, 256k to 512k without being contractually bound for another 12-months?0
-
Yes you can upgrade without being tied into another 12 month contract, as I have done this and made sure of that fact myself.
I'm currently paying £17.99 a month for the unlimited 512 service, and wondering if when the automatic upgrades go through if my price will stay the same. They put me on this price after I complained that I could not get the 1mb service from its launch, so hopefully my price plan will stay the same, and I can get unlimited 1mb for £17.99 a month, surely the best offer around.
To anyone who has been with their ISP for the minimum contract period I would strongly recommend that you ring them up and say that you've found a better deal elsewhere, as they're usually desperate to keep customers, as I believe they actually have to pay BT to disconnect you, so usually they either upgrade your service or cut your price.0 -
looks like mines has finally upgraded from 150 to 2500

I had an e-mail from Tiscali this morning telling that due to a local exchange problem they couldn't upgrade me so they were giving me a discount of £1 per month instead. Just rang to tell them this wasn't acceptable and was informed I have been upgraded....
I have been given the following website address to check my speed (which I will do when I get home from work because I'm not sure what to believe now !)

Got the same message today
"In early January we contacted you to let you know that we would be increasing the speed of your 150kbps broadband service to 256kbps at no additional cost.
Unfortunately, we have been unable to increase your broadband speed due to technical constraints at your local telephone exchange. This issue has affected only a small number of our customers and we sincerely apologise.
To compensate we will reduce the price of your 150k broadband package from £15.99 to £14.99 a month, starting from 1st February 2005.
You may notice a slight change in the description of your broadband package on this bill. Please ignore this, it is simply a result of our attempt to upgrade your speed.
In the meantime, we will keep trying to get your speed upgrade completed and will let you know if we are successful.
We hope you continue to enjoy your Tiscali Broadband service.
Kind regards,
The Tiscali Team

"Funny thing" was that last night I got a cold call from them offering to reduce my monthly cost by £1 if I signed up for their telephone service (refused as I dont do cold calls and I didnt have time to work out the cost difference compared to Skytalk) today they cant upgrade me!Pinkkipper0 -
I was on 150k coming to the end of my contract, and I phoned to give notice to cancel, I was offered 512k for £17.99, because I told them I was going to sign to another provider offering me at this price.
Suddenly I notice my connection is slower, so I do a speedtest...I'm on 256k, when I logged into my account, they have terminated my 512k which was only active for 1 week, and put me on the 256k, WITHOUT NOTIFICATION.
I'm peeved by this, why did they offer me the 512k upgrade, to keep my custom, only to reduce my speed.
I'm seriously considering leaving, the only thing is being without BB for a month is delaying that decision, but I'm at my wits end, maybe the wait for a change will be worth it.....no more hassles(I've had probs when they did the switch over to 512)0 -

http://speedcheck.ispconnect.co.uk/Several days ago my speed from Tiscali broadband increased from 150k to around 250k. Then a couple of days ago I get an email saying that they could not upgrade me and reducing my monthly payment by £1. I am happy if they want to increase my connection speed and reduce my monthly subscription at the same time. Need to wait for next bill to see what I have been charged. I wonder if everone on Tiscali broadband is getting the same email whether their speed is upgraded or not.0 -

I hear what your saying about this, but beware, and check.
I am in the middle of an argument with Tosscali.about this very point. My contract finished last November, and I was persuaded to stay, with my price for 512 dropping from £24.99 to £19.99,the same as what new customers could have, and it was a rolling contract, meaning I could cancel with 30 days notice, even though my speed wasn't changing.Excellent I thought,if I get peed off,I can tell them where to stick it.
In mid December,I decided I was going to move, because I still thought they sucked,so I phoned them to tell them I was cancelling.I was eventually put through to a very snotty woman, who said that I had verbally agreed a new 12 month contract, and that I was locked in.I sent an e.mail to their complaints dept on the 18th December, and, according to them they reply within 5 working days, but guess what? I'm still waiting.I have fired off a PM to a member of their team through the Tosscali forum, and am still waiting, although I believe he's on holiday,so hopefully this week should bring some news.
When I finally get what I'm after, they can shove their service where the sun don't shine. That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
I have had the same promise before Christmas, and the same disappointing "Spam" type email telling me they couldn't upgrade be because of my exchange.
I'm ready for leaving.0 -
if you want to upgrade quicker just go to your account and upgrade from there. My free upgrade date is end of March, could have it done tomorrow but the price is £19.99 instead of the 17.99 i'm paying now.
one question though.. how can you tell how much you've downloaded to see if it's worth going capped ?0
