Thanks for that - sets my mind at rest. Still don't really know why C&P can't be done for more than two cards, but provided it doesn't materially affect me in any way I guess I'll go with it.

    Thanks

  • I fuelled my car up the other day at a Morrison’s Fuel Station. I paid for the fuel with my Visa / Delta card. The first transaction was declined I got a receipt for the declined transaction the 2nd attempt went through ok and got a receipt for this transaction. The person behind the counter said “We’ve been having problems with Chip n Pin all day”
I’ve checked my account today only to find I’m £62.70 short in my account. I’ve spoken to my bank and they confirm 2 transactions of £62.70 are pending on my account. After giving them the Authorisation code from the complete transaction the bank confirms the other one is the declined transaction. I questioned if it’s declined then why is the money missing from my account? They told me the merchant who claims the money is holding on to it for 5 working days until the declined transaction is complete.
So yet another example of how banks make money. One tank of fuel has cost me £125.40 I know I will be getting the declined amount back in 5 working days but that’s not the point.
The other problem I have is I wrote a cheque yesterday (Sat) which now I don’t have the funds to cover this because of the 2nd payment being taken. My bank had a good laff at me when I asked if the cheque is returned will you charge me. YES we will because I should have checked I had the funds in my account before I wrote the cheque. I keep a slip of paper in my wallet with a running total of what I’ve spent so I know exactly what I have in my account and when I match the slip of paper up with my account balance its always the same.
I want my money back but the merchant who’s handling the transaction WILL NOT PLAY BALL!
This has made me so MAD

Seems like the quickest way to resolve a disputed fraudulent transaction where a PIN is used is to involve the press:

Remember stories like this, where members of the Public were being warned about ATMs?

The gang of four men and a woman fitted false fronts and pinhole cameras to a number of cash machines across London.

Looks like crooks are PINching PIN Entry Devices in shops.

THE attempted theft of a chip-and-pin machine at a petrol station in Horley has led to police warnings for retailers to ensure the devices are secured.

Spotting a dodgy Chip & PIN Pad (Pin Entry Device) may prove even more difficult.

M&S needs to be careful that the franchisees keep the stores up to the standards of the main chain. Too often, staff aren't engaged and the stores lack TLC – in the stores at Victoria Station, for example, most of the Chip and Pin pads are held together with masking tape.

Night-Owl. What does Bumping Up mean?

    Anyway:

Up date on the Shell Garage Card Cloning Scam in Warwickshire:

Victims of card cloning at a garage near Warwick have demanded to know why banks did not notice suspicious cash withdrawals.

Many are baffled that card companies and banks did not notice almost simultaneous transactions thousands of miles apart.

    Full story click here.

I bet if victims had reported fraudultent cash withdrawals to the local Police as well as their card issuers, this would have allowed earlier intervention at the Shell Petrol Station.

I now want to add a 3rd card for my daughter (for emergency use when she's away travelling during her gap year). To my surprise, Nationwide have stated that all three cards must revert to old fashioned magnetic strip & signature - the system apparently can't cope with more than two chip & pin cards on the same account.

That is interesting I may try that myself and see what happens as I would like a chip and signature credit card.

    Note:

Bump = bringing thread up to top of list by making a new post in the thread.

But this thread is a sticky so it is always in the top anyway so no need for a bump.
