Tell your credit card issuer you require a Chip & Signature Card.
Click here are a few good reasons why you sould continue to sign.
Telling your card issuers that you don't fell safe using PIN. You can't remember seldom used numbers, you won't write down a PIN and you're taking cardwatch advice, not to use the same PIN for other cards.
Some card issuers are better than others always ask to talk to a supervisor or customer service if you have any problem.
Good luck
Not all credit cards offer this. Its either one of the other in some cases. Personally I am happy with chip and pin. Although I can see the concern, expecially if you are quite elderly typing your pin in and someones sees you doing this then steals your cards. As most people use the same pin number for each card it means a spending frenzy for the thief.0 -
Everyone knows about card fraud at petrol stations, where PINs are harvested on an industrial scale.
Is the same M.O. by card theives about to be seen in shops?
Or has this already happened at Stanstead?

James, here is a one for you, I was shopping in my usual supermarket (NOT Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose or Sainsburys) and I went through the "Slow Lane" with self service tills, I put my Chip and Signature card into the reader and signed the signature pad as required, then it shouts out for assistance like normal, the woman comes over and cancels the transaction.
She trys it again and says "You cant swipe a chip and pin card" (Even though I had just took it out of the chip and spin reader) and I told her to get it to ask me for a pin and I will pay her £100, she tries and it doesnt, so she cancels it and then trys again, "Transaction Declined, Alternate Tender" this is because I never keep more money than needed in my account and all the times they had tried to take it out, they had been holding the funds.
So I get on the blower and get the cash transfered and do it again, she says "still wants a signature, I will have to cancel it" so I insisted on a manager to clarify it, and they said "Accept It"
The main reasons for me having this card is because I am dislexyc and cant remember pins easily and because I have had no end of fraud on my account, I really am fed up and I am going in to the supermarket to complain, does anyone think this is worth taking up with head office? I hate it because I was embarrassed in front of a huge queue of customers and I just wanted to walk out, except I needed baby milk and cashback.
Also, EVERY time I go to that shop, its like an automatic reaction, they log into "Supervisor mode" and cancel the transaction, WHY??? Dont they train there staff, I thought this company was "one of the best employers"?
Any advice greatfully recieved, and anyone else had a problem with this retailler? We’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. Hi Trubster,
I've used the very same tills with my Chip & Signature Cards.
Try reporting them to this link
Problems using your card.
Be nice to know if the above link responds0 -
Tried, tested and got no-where, It is probably a dead email box.
I will be complaining to the store manager and demanding a written apology from head office, I also want them to clarify if they accept C+S cards (Which they do) then I can show it when they embarrass me infront of customers by saying "You have no cash in your account" after cancelling 3 times.
Any idea how long it takes for "Signature refused" transactions to be bounced back to my account?

Harrison added that a new breed of hi-tech fraud is targeting chip and PIN machines, just 15 months after they were brought in to improve security.
He urged card users to examine carefully each machine they use to enter their PIN number, because thieves are using fake gadgets to steal card details.
The plastic fascias - designed to look exactly like a normal chip and PIN machine - fit over the top of a reader to capture data including the secret four digit security PIN.

Even worse news here:
Miss Edward, 43, said: "The bank refused to accept I was a victim of a crime.
"nsisted that it was my debit card and my PIN. "It was as if I was lying. Yet we all know that this fraud is rife."

Chip & Signature anyone????0 -
The way to remember anything is to make an association of that thing with something else. Difficult with 4 numbers? Well, a year or house number etc could work, but may be a bit obvious. The way I do it is to remember the pattern on the keyboard. I don't actually remember the numbers, just the pattern they make. 4 corners, cross, diagonal, etc. This works for me very well, however on holiday in Spain last year the keyboard to the local hole-in-the-wall was the other way round! ie 1-2-3 were at the bottom, so I had to stand on my head to get my cash out!!0

Good advice, I do the same.
Never come across that in Spain though.
