    Chip & PIN Fraud Alert.

Either APACS is being economical with the truth or there are an awful lot of subscribers to these forums telling porkies.

Bet lots of readers, especiall victims, would feel pretty miffed if they discovered they can opt out of having a PIN with their Credit Card - Chip & Signature Cards are available.
How do I opt out of Chip and Pin?

Tell your credit card issuer you require a Chip & Signature Card.

Click here are a few good reasons why you sould continue to sign.

Telling your card issuers that you don't fell safe using PIN. You can't remember seldom used numbers, you won't write down a PIN and you're taking cardwatch advice, not to use the same PIN for other cards.

Some card issuers are better than others always ask to talk to a supervisor or customer service if you have any problem.

    Good luck

A bank was ordered to compensate an 80-year-old woman €1,500 after she lost thousands through ATM fraud. She had never used her card or PIN but over a 10-day period €700 per day was taken out of her account

I wonder what this elderly lady went through before she got her compensation?

Using a PIN is thus not in the customer's interest.

Extraordinary conversation with Nationwide's credit card department.

They told me that I could only have a chip and signature card if there were more than three people on my account!

I called Lloyds TSB, their line was - If you persist on having a Chip & Signature Card we will give you one.

    Martins prediction:

"Due to chip n pin, you'lll now know your credit card pin number, something unlikely in the past. This increases the temptation to withdraw cash from holes in the wall on credit cards, yet do this and there are massive hidden costs."

Chip and PIN blamed for debit rise.

    Don't shoot the messenger.

So you still think Chip and PIN is safe? I don’t think so - a tech-savvy team of fraudsters are reported to have hit a Wendy’s restaurant in Edmonton, Canada, last month using two modified Chip & PIN PINpads.

    Story here.

Exactly what's happening at UK Petrol Stations?
  • Well I love chip and pin. Means I can use hubby's/Dads cards without having to hear the comment you don't look like a Mr... ;)

Actually, I wouldn't mind so much if

    1) I hadn't seen so many other peoples pin numbers and though how easy it would be to steal it as they're leaving supermarket and empty their bank account

    2) People on the tills actually looked at the name on the card

    3) If it was a combined security measure, so if it was PIN and sig, or PIN and photo id.

Other than that I have stuck with cash or cheque as much as poss. Obviously annoying many people by using cheque, but not even allowed to use that now days.

They can not be serious. Phone up again and speak to another advisor. Surely they won't say the same thing.
