How do you work this then. If the diameter of the tyre is 2 inches more on a new tyre and is doing the same number of revolutions as a tyre with no tread the the tyre with more tread will be covering more distance (as its has a bigger diameter) and hence going faster.
I know it was late when you posted, that but you must have been asleep not to notice it was corrected and apologuised for very quicky, do keep up

The problems surrounding the driving of a lorry remain those of the driver concerned.
If said driver needs the assistance of other road users in order to achieve an aim, then it say's rather too much about that driver's skill level.
sorry , lorry-driver peeps, I stand by what I posted, exactly.
For sure, it's nice if, once in a while, another road user helps out, or appears to understand your problems......the issue I have is, as I observe all too frequently, many lorry drivers actually expect help.
It is, when all said and done, part of the test.
And the test is [or should be] a normal drive..[perceptions to the contrary are just that, perceptions and urban myth]....
It's all about a driver's attitude, in the end.
Sadly, not too many lorry drivers or bus drivers seek to foster a professional attitude.
Which is why, even to this day, Vocational driving hasn't been granted 'skilled' status. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

Oddly enough there are many highly skilled and courteous car drivers just as there are many truck drivers of similar disposition, it takes but a moment to recognise each other and the two interact fluidly and with mutual respect among the heaving throng of dross on the roads.
There are thousands more ignorant stupid incompetent inadequate aggressive and useless car drivers and an equivalent number of equally useless truck drivers, they couldn't manage the proverbial in a brewery between them and their interactions will always end up a mess.
Many truck drivers the like of which are being complained about here are not long term time served drivers, they were till recently car drivers who used redundancy payments and various freeby schemes to get their licences when their usual work dried up...many but not all drive trucks as car drivers would, badly.
It bothers me not a jot that my job is classed as unskilled apparently, remember though when you treat lorry drivers as the sum of the earth for long enough they start to act like it, reaping whats sown.0 -

i think your right, lorry drivers of old did the job because they were proud of thier trucks, thier loads and everything else they did, nowadays its just a wage to most and the quicker they get through it the better.
you can usually spot the rubbish lorry driver a mile off, they will usually be tippers or large companies that use a lot of agency drivers like supermarket logisitic companies and large parcel delivery companies.
the better drivers usually spend a lot of thier life in thier unit and treat it better than thier homes.
for some its a vocation, for others its just a means to an end....work permit granted!0 -
Back in the 1970's there was a [parliamentary] attempt to give lorry/bus drivers some 'professional' status....as with many other trades and professions.....with an educational career path, etc.
It came to nought....IMHO, the idea of lorry drivers having to achieve 'qualifications' to work, gave those drivers a potential pecuniary advantage over employers....with the knock-on effect of being able to hold the economy to ransom to achieve better pay, conditions, etc..there would have existed [and there still does] an immediate skills shortage...consequently, qualified drivers might have been able to name their price?
All of which would have turned the conservative establishment white with fear!
So the idea was 'rejected'.....
we must be careful not to tar specific vehicle drivers with the same brush.
Bear in mind, much of the flagrant law/regulation flouting that goes on is as much managements' fault as drivers. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

This has been reintroduced in a way; drivers now have to take a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

.
Actually most lorry drivers expect no help at all and expect car drivers to do everything possible to make the job as hard as possible to do.
Yours, a lorry driver with 1.5 million miles experience.0 -

Thing is even without "professional" status truck drivers would have more power than the miners, or any other group, could ever dream of... if they all stuck together.
Holding the economy to ransom would take less than a week, in that time the UK would have literally stopped!Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

I don't think thats fair altough you may not be that far off the mark Hammy.
I have never driven a hgv, but I know a fair bit about dynamics. They get additional consideration and a wide berth from me and many others, although I'm probably not in a majority group.
I think it's born of ignorance rather than intent, not that it makes a blind bit of difference to the chopped up 20 tonner that now has zilch stopping clearance :mad:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
