I Don't Have Kids Why Pay For Someone Else's?

Hello all,

I have a quick question which is worrying me because i'm a honest person. My GF has 2 kids and the dad pays maintence.

We have been going out for 2 years and are talking about moving in together. I will pay her rent. My income for 2009/2010 was about 6K as i worked Part Time.

I'm starting a new job near her and my income will be 20K. She just told me her income is 12k, but she gets £135 a week! Tax Credits as a single working mum of 2 kids.

What i want to know is will she lose her £135 a week and if she does why should i have to pay another £600 a month on top of the rent i was going to pay her for living they. It doesn't seem fair if this is true. I've choosen not to have kids.

Sorry to sound blunt but youve taken on the mum of 2 kids, they come as a complete package, so if you choose to live their then you have taken on "a family" therefore you should be contributing to the "family".

Try http://www.turn2us.entitledto.co.uk/entitlementcalculator.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 Its a benefit calculator so you can see how much she will be loosing or gaining and whether or not it would be more beneficial to find a place on your own.

Surely your girlfriend and her kids come as a package? If you're not happy taking on the kids, perhaps you should re-think your situation.

If you want to live as a couple, you will be assessed as such and Tax Credits will (rightfully) be based on your household income, rather than just your partner's.

    1) as previously stated, you take the whole package and cannot pick and choose.
    2) Never live in someone elses house unless you have a LEGAL right to do so
    3) Im even more !!!!ed off becuase im paying for other peoples kids too and i dont know them or their mothers !
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

    Hi .

Surely you knew your girlfriend had kiddies whenever you met her ?

My attitude would be take on your girlfriend then you take on her children !

If you are going to live with her and the children then surely you dont expect HMRC to continue paying her a single tax credits claim when really she IS NOT single.?

Doesnt matter whether you want to have kids of your own or not .....the fact of the matter is that if you are as honest as you say then the single working mums claim to tax credits will be changed to a working COUPLES claim as soon as you move in !

Don't worry, once your girlfriend knows you've got this attitude you'll no doubt be single again anyway!

Does your gf know you think of her kids like that? Yours or not if you move in you will be their step father in all but name, if you don't want that responsibility call it off for their sake first and your gf's feelings.

    Are you for real?

Rent! Is she your girlfriend or your landlady? Being a couple & living together means sharing living costs, rent, food, bills the lot not paying rent!

Also if you didnt want responsibility for kids you really shouldnt have started dating her. A single mum comes with kids, they come as a package you cant choose one and ignore the other. As a couple you share responsibility for them.

You can either take on the role of step parent or walk away!
