has anyone one got any suggestions about saving money
on the loft heater.
At the moment I've defused it
last year it was set to come on when temp fell too
freezing we had minus 12 -15 in dec/jan so burst pipe
ice frooze the joint off between mains and coldwater tank
plumber set the heater to high unbeknown to me so for 3months
the loft was scorching
so this year would like some ideas (thought about blankets from
charity shop to cover pipes and propping the loft hatch out on a
freezing night)0 -
I live in a rented flat with a very smart looking metal front door but its bloooming freezing to the touch even in height of summer
Not allowed to put up a curtain rail. Any ideas on how I could easily & with no DIY skills(!) create some form of insulation. Especially important as I have a rubbish electric underfloor heating system that seems to create little heat.
Tape bubble wrap to it. It won't help with the drafts around the edges, but it will insulate the actual door, itself.:beer:0 -

This thread is just going tooooo far... Why not set yourself on fire, the warmth is unbeatable. Or kill yourself, you'll never feel the cold again, and no bills to pay, beat that!
i've been really enjoying working my way through this thread (on page 13 would you believe!) and it's been amazing! this is the most ridiculous post!!0 -
Gizmocoe. I thought I was the only one looking forward to hot flushes! I don't have a thyroid problem but am a cold bird and always have been. The top of the tropical zone at the Eden Project in summer is my idea of living - whilst others are fainting with the heat I'm saying "just right". I think I was a lizard in my past life - I only heat up when basking in the sun. I'm okay at work (I work in the NHS) but am always the first to put on jumpers in autumn and last to take them off in spring/summer at home. No heating on yet but I wish it was!0

Gizmo:rotfl: <ceridwen wanders off wondering whether to stick in another application to one of those psychic phone helplines to earn some more money;) >
Re the hot flushes - errr.....sorry to tell you this but there IS a proportion of women who take years to get through the hot flushes....I'm still wondering when on earth they are going to stop...as, according to my calculations, they should have finished a year or two ago...I have heard of OAP women still having them:eek:
(Pssttt...do you think I can put in a complaint to the Maker ......"one body not fit for purpose"?)0 -
Gave in on friday night and put the heating on for one hour - but it was freezing in the kids bedroom.
So that's the winter test - the heating works well
Haven't had it on again since so have only had it on for 1 hour total so far.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

Replace it with heating tape wrapped around the pipes and running through a "Frost Stat " . It will only cost pennies to run when the loft temp is minus zero .
