I was in the post office and noticed the front page of one of the Scottish daily papers --it said something like "Blackout Fears as Power Costs Soar". I didnt see which paper or anything more cos I was in a hurry and didnt have my specs on. has anybody any idea what this was about ?

The stark warning yesterday came amid fears of yet more energy price rises before next summer. Energyhelpline.com director Mark Todd said energy prices were “likely to jump again in the next six months with consumers facing rises of 10 to 20 per cent”.
    *********
FOUNDIT --ITS THE DAILY EXPRESS talking about the future, not immediate blackouts. But looks like immediate rises !!!

Blackouts? We've been in the Midlands for seven, nearly eight years and have never had one. Is this something new or another justification for continued price hikes? Sorry if that sounds stupid, but you cant help but wonder sometimes wth is going on.

I read something a while back about impending (not sure how soon though) electricty shortages meaning we all have to suffer "scheduled power cuts", with different areas being without at different times. I hope that within an area it will also vary from day-to-day or week-to-week, else it will always be the same people getting up in the dark/coming home in the dark/not missing it 'cos it's after they go to bed !!!

I bet we don't get a reduction on standing charges to make up for it though :(

Well it has been a cold 10 degrees here today and Im pretty sure that when we were having patchy rain earlier as I was waiting for small person to come out of school im sure there was sleet in with it.

Ive been freezing today - been wearing my cosy toes socks all day and was sat earlier with a fleece bob the builder blanket, a small hot water bottle and a cup of tea and it was only 2 in the afternoon!
    Time to find me again

the house had a chill to it around 10am today, and I honestly thought I was going to have to crank the thermostat up a couple of degrees to make the heating kick in for a while!! I then nipped out for a while, and got back as hubby was heading out to the hospital for the afternoon, so decided to sit it out a bit longer. Nipped out again a couple of hours later, and when I came home the house felt much better -- so I had to check it hadn't come on anyway.

Nope, but the sun had come out -- and as the rooms we use are all south facing they were warming up nicely from that :)

Have still felt the need for my sweatshirt -- but couldn't understand why as my toes felt fine. Until I realised I'd put a second pair of my thin socks on before walking the dog (my first outing) and haven't actually taken them off ;) Must dig out all my socks so that I can continue to wear them two pairs at a time me thinks !!!

I'm flatly refusing to put the heating on so instead i've got my slow cooker on in the living room. Nice and warm and smells of yummy chicken. Might make some stock overnight in my bedroom lol. :rotfl:

:D I've long since suspected that weight gain acts as an extra "coat" or two and confirmed it when I felt warmer at a point where I was a couple of stone overweight temporarily.

Sorry to disagree Ceridwen, but I am carrying an extra pound (or 20!!) and am always cold - even in August!! Have always been a cold mortal, even been known to resort to hoovering as a way to warm up... (dire, I know!)
My hubby is slim and is always warm - we frequently follow each other around, opening / closing windows. He likes to have a window open in the bedroom at night, so I can be found wearing my sexy woolly hat in bed - I figure it will deter any would be burglars........!!!!!:D

When we eventually light the woodburner hubby sees it as a challenge to actually warm me up - backfires though, as before I am down to only one blanket over me (!) he is down to his pants......:rotfl:

Thank you, This thread is wonderful - please keep up the good work.
