Use about the same amount as you would fabric softener and put it in the drawer so it flows down the same route as normal to clear away stuff from the pipes.
Borax comes from Boots as a powder and you follow the instructions to make into a solution (make up some and keep in an old milk container - it doesn't go off) - I use a teacup full once a month in both the dw and ww costs pennies;)0 -
Thanks, I've been using soda crystals (I put a mug full in an empty drum once a month and run it on a hot cycle) and this has helped quite a bit since I started. However, I noticed after completing a wash recently a slight smell in the drum and was considering using an alternative so hopefully one of your suggestions might help. I'll give the vinegar a go first I think as I've got plenty of this.
Thanks again0 -
Someone asked earlier what sort of bleach... I think the thin bleach would be best as it won't sudse up. I am a big believer in bleach.:beer:0

Blimey! I just looked this up in the Vinegar Book. That’s a hell of a lot of Vinegar they tell you to use. Over 4½ liters!
There are more tips here too. Thought this might help some.

Well, this morning i decided to clean my washing machine. I put a bit of bleach in the drawer and set it going on a hot wash. I went back into the kitchen about 1/2 hour later and there were bubbles everywhere!!! The whole machine was full of bubbles, they were coming out of the drawer, all over the floor! Once I stopped laughing I put towels on the floor to mop up. They are now being washed in the machine just incase any bleach is lurking.
It was thick bleach, maybe that's where I went wrong
Jammy dodger - hope your clean was incident free! Now proud Mumto3 :j0 -
My dad runs a boiling wash with a tablespoon of value laundry powder once a month. Seems to do the trick! I try and do the same, but I'm rubbish at keeping on top of choresTaking baby-steps :beer:0

Mods, please move or merge as I'm sure this will have been discussed before, only I can't find anything on the search
Smell is coming from the drum itself.
I've had it on a couple of boil washes with nothing in it, but it doesn't make any difference.
What could I use to take this nasty niff away!! (Like a musty, damp smell)
Thanks in advanceTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
