My OH washed his car polishing cloths and pads in the washing machine a few weeks ago, it still smells of polish!
Even worse he then tumble dried them and its got a front vent so the whole house then smelt of polish/ nail varnish!
Maybe I should try vinegar in the washing machine0 -
Thanks for the replies. Managed with that link thanks Juliejim.
Think I will use bleach and soda crystals.0 -
I would be careful with bleach it might rot the seal. I run the machine empty on a hot wash with washing soda and then may be add some vinegar to the rinse cycle.0

I tried to clean mine by running a hot wash with some thick bleach in the drawer. There were LOTS of bubbles and then it shut itself off  Thankfully it was OK with the old 'turn it off and back on again with your fingers crossed thing' but I wouldn't do it again!!!
Turns out the whiff was coming from the waste pipe where it joins the sink and just needed adjusting  Might be worth a check!0 -
Ive done it using a tiny bit of bleach and soda crystals. Ive dried the rubber bit and the smell has gone.0

This is revolting, but I thought I'd share........my mother's old washing machine always smelt funny and everytime I went to visit I would give it a 95 degree wash with some vinegar in it, but it never got rid of the smell. When she moved house I insisted she got rid of it and my OH and I disconnected it and disposed of it. We found out that the smell was coming from the waste pipe which had dead maggots in it, they could have been in the machine for all I know. It makes me feel sick everytime I think of it and I am, understandably, paranoid about keeping my machine clean and smelling sweet.0

My mum had a smelly washing machine, so when she had the repair man to come and fix it one time she said to him about the smell and he told her that its because she always uses washing liquid instead of powder. I don't know whats in the powder, but switching has worked for her!If marriage means you fell in love, does divorce mean you climbed back out?:rotfl:0

Try Ariel biological washing powder. I find it too strong for general washing but for freshening the washing machine it's fab. Used t-cut, put the clothes in the machine and it stank. Kept putting it on boil wash etc etc and then googled and read about using Ariel on some plumbing type website.
