Apologies if this has been suggested before - I have read most, but not all of this thread. I recently picked up a tip to run the machine empty on a hot cycle with a dishwash tablet to get rid of any smells. I tried it today (added some soda crystals in the drawer for good measure) and the result was pretty good!

I find scrubbing the rubber seal with a bit of bicarb on a damp cloth, reaching behind and into all the cracks as much as possible keeps the smells at bay.

My washing machine has started to smell really badly, a mouldy stale smell.

Does anyone have any ideas to clean it through?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

My washing machine smells like old cabbage

Does anyone have any ideas for this as really dont want to replace the machine, its only a few years old. I currently wash clothes and then take them out as soon as the machine has finished otherwise the clothes will stink, I have to use quite a lot of softner to mask the smell as well.

Thanks for any ideas you may have.

Hi, I would start by cleaning the seal around the door, mine gets very "yucky" after a while. Make sure you get the inside bit and the outside bit. Next clean the soap container, most of them slide out , give it a good scrub and clean the machine slot as well. It gets grimy as well.Check the filter at the bottom of the machine,it might be blocked. I once found my dd bracelet that had been missing for months there ! Next put the machine on a hot wash with some vinegar in it and no clothes. Hopefully that will solve your problem. I dont use conditioner anymore i use vinegar instead, it is cheaper and you really cant smell it on the clothes. I hope this helps you .

I recently switched to non-bio liquid and have found since then it smells. I have taken the advice of someone in this thread and buy cheapy own-brand bio liquid and every fortnight or so use this for one of the loads instead of the non-bio and the smell goes away. So that is worth a try if you use non-bio that maybe your problem

Hoping someone can help, my washing machine has started smelling, well, damp  kind of mildewy I guess. I have no idea why, ive done a wash on a hotter cycle (usually use 30) to see if it would get rid of it and I got some fabric conditioner, but neither worked. It's making my clothes smell horrible :( The drum looks fine so I don't know what it is. Does anyone know how I can stop it smelling, maybe something I can put through in an empty wash for example?

    Thanks in advance :D
