Ewww my washing machine STINKS :(

I know this thread is quite old, but in case anyone like myself happens to consult it, I swear by Smelly Washer Cleaner ( smellywasher DOT com ). Yes, I know this product is a US product and difficult to find outside of there (I am British and I live in mainland Europe) but I found the owner of the product very friendly and helpful in facilitating shipping of product to my European address. Shipping of the product from the USA may be a bit pricey but the product itself is very cheap so the one offsets the other. Also, there are some very helpful thoughts on his site on how to avoid getting the smell in your washing machine again once you have used the product. All in all, this product completely solved problems of smelliness inside my washing machine once and for all.
The key for me was to use the product with a full load of laundry (as recommended) in order for the product to reach the splash area of the machine, where the problem of smelly mould and bacteria usually arises—also to repeat several times. See this page ( smellywasher DOT com FORWARD SLASH 3-tips-for-preventing-washing-machine-odor-in-your-front-loader FORWARD SLASH ) for lots of useful information (though the shop owner where I bought the machine did advise against adding water manually to the machine as suggested on this page as he felt this could adversely effect the electronic sensor which determines how much water to add to the load). I should add that, despite the reassurances on his site, I found the second product Smelly Towel Cleaner to be rather aggressive and as a result I feared the effect it would have on my sensitive skin. The primary product Smelly Washer Cleaner appears to be much milder and yes, it can be used with a full load of laundry though no, you can't use it apart from regular laundry detergent as it does not in itself wash the clothes. I find it has no ill effect on my laundry at all.
