Hi Sparky,
There's an earlier thread that should help:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together. This thread may help with the black on the seal:

I have the same problem. My clothes smell fine if I take them out within 5 minutes of the cycle finishing. If I leave them in machine for longer they smell minging!!!!!!!!!! Like mouldy & I have to re wash them. Means I can only put washing machine on whilst I'm at home. It happened at my old house & now this new house. My washer is hotpoint & not that old.0

Can anybody offer any advice, each time I put a load of washing in the washer smells a bit
I've checked the filter and its clean and I've checked inside the washer, it hasn't been like this before, I've got vinegar, bicarb of soda and soda crystals coming in my Tesco delivery on Thursday, any suggestions for using these to get rid of the pong.
Cheers0 -
hi in index collections theres a whole link to smelly washing machines..i used it when mine was whiffy the solution for mine was a really hot wash cycle with an empty machine i put a good splodge of bicarb in the drum and a milton sterilising tablet where powder goes ..seems it was the non bio wash liquid i was using not killing the bacteria i also took out the drawer that holds the powder and gave that a good wash out too hope this helps0

Mine has been ponging since I started using less powder and cooler washes. A good hot wash on the towels helped for a bit but then it started again and there were lots of 'bits' left from washing a bath mat so I put a squirt of (thick) bleach in the powder dispenser and another one in the rinse ..... well it really frothed up and it took two wash cycles to clear the bubbles. Machine smells lovely now. Think a good hot wash once a week might help . I'm worried too much bleach might rot some of the machine parts .

Before finding this site i used Dr Beckman's rescue remedy from Asda. It cost £2.99 and says to be used every 3 months to keep machine fresh. After boasting to MIL how much useful information i have discovered reading all the threads on here its time to put them into practice now though.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j
