Ewww my washing machine STINKS :(

I have one of the above!i thought it was just where we had left wet washing in it for too long but nope-the smell is still lingering days later!I have cleaned out the draw and checked round the rubber seal and that seems fine.My hubby checker the filter thingie but it didn't look like it had anything in it to filter muck through IYSWIM.It was clean though.
So any ideas on how to make it smell clean and fresh again?!0 -
I've had this problem and this is what worked for me. Run the washer without clothes and with detergent on a hot load. Put a big scoop of bicarbonate of soda in for the rinse. After it finishes, leave it open to dry out.

Hi smithyjules,
There's an earlier thread with lots of ideas that should help so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.

Does anyone have any good tips for getting rid of a mouldy smell coming from a washing machine?
Have wiped rubber rim but this doesn't seem to fix the problem...does this mean that it basically needs to be replaced? Any help gratefully accepted!0 -
Hi nicksgirl,
No it doesn't need to be replaced. There's an earlier thread that should help so I'll add your post to it to keep the suggestions together.

If you read through this thread you'll get lots of ideas, but for a start:
Take out the detergent drawer and clean it thoroughly (if you have a DW, put it on the stop shelf when you run it next). Then wipe out the hole that the drawer goes in with a solution of soda crystals. Give it a really good scrub (an old toothbrush may come in handy) to get rid of any mould/mildew and detergent/fabric conditioner deposits. Then wipe over with white vinegar.
Find the instructions for your WM and locate the filter. Put down some towels on the floor, and find a large shallow dish or tray to put directly underneath the hole. Take out the filter, drain all the water, remove any objects (e.g. safety pins, coins etc), and wash the filter thoroughly. Put it back carefully, making sure it fits properly, otherwise you'll have a leak.
Reach into the machine and wipe UNDER the rubber seal inside the door. Wipe under here with a vinegar solution until you have got all the gunk out. Also wipe the inside of the door thoroughly.
When the drawer is clean, put it back in, and then run the machine on the hottest wash you can, with a couple of spoonfuls of soda crystals in the detergent section of the drawer, vinegar (the same amount as you use fabric conditioner) in the conditioner section, and more soda crystals in the drum. Don't put any washing in.
This should mean that everything is spotlessly clean. Depending on how much laundry you do, I'd recommend washing out the drawer, wiping under the seal and checking the filter weekly (if you use vinegar rather than fabric conditioner, you won't need to do the drawer so often) and running a cleaning cycle once or twice a month.0 -

hi, I dont have the answer for you but I also had this problem on my last machine. I tried running a boil wash a few times, I bought a special cleaner for the machine and I also tried soda crystals but it was all a waste of time. it did seem to fade a bit over time but never really went away. I also seemed to get a grey goo collecting around the rubber seal on the door. Oh and I never stuck to any one type of washing powder/liquid/tablet. People used to say that liquid gel causes the goo but I never used it all that much.0
