The other day I came across a link to http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/
Actually it was probably on one of the links above! Anyway, I thought it was a really good site and it covered smelly washing machines and how to cure it (monthly wash, empty, on high temp with washing powder which contains bleaching agents, poss throw in soda crystals and vinegar) and also covered what causes it.0 -
There is an awful smell coming from behind my washing machine, not the drum. We had a man out to fix the machine last month and since then thre is a dreadful smell coming from behind it. It is almost an eggy type smell, we have pulled the machine out and bleached the floor but it still smells!!!
Any ideas?Our dream has come true...0 -

In case you skipped down the thread - have a look at the post in the link here:-
Maintenance wash
Note:- This, depending on how long since you did one, may not be an instant fix. Layers of soap scum and fabric conditioner may take more than one wash to deal with. It may even get worse before it gets better as you take the top layers off - but it will get better. If your first time doesn't seem to have made much difference you can try this... next time you do a maintenance wash, wait until the machine is just starting to empty the wash water (before you get to rinsing) and turn it off. Leave it overnight and then re-start it in the morning. This makes sure that your outlet pipe etc get a good soaking too.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I find if you always keep the door open and dry the rubber seal after each wash it prevents odour build up too.
