Whats all this shouting we'll have no trouble here.
Will no one think of all the long suffering NPower customers who will shortly find themselves with UW.
Its all creating a very bad impression.:D0 -

Maybe it would be a good idea next time to look a for a company that doesn't impose min term contracts, has a guaranteed UK-based call centre and is STILL way cheaper than BT? Just a thought.
Maybe you should look for a company that doesn't impose minimum term contracts!Home Phone service
If you paid in advance for a new line to be installed, the new line will be subject to a minimum contract term of 12 months.
If you asked us to spread the new line installation charge over 24 months, then the new line will be subject to a minimum contract term of 24 months.
If you move home and ask us to supply our Home Phone service at your new address, then it will be subject to a minimum contract term of 12 months.
Broadband service
Broadband Ultra is subject to a minimum 18 month contract term and 30 days’ notice thereafter.
Mobile Broadband service
Customers who have applied for our Mobile Broadband service may request a Pocket Wireless Router (“PWR”) to use with this Service, which is subject to an early termination fee (“ETF”) if the Service is cancelled for any reason within 24 months of the commencement date. This ETF will be calculated as the number of months remaining until the end of your minimum contract term (rounded up to the nearest number of whole months) multiplied by £4. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Just looked at my December Utility Warehouse bill, and lo and behold there is a new bill item, Bill Protector, for £2. Turns out it's a form of accidental death cover, which you can optionally sign up to ... except they seem to have "optionally" done it for me without bothering to ask! Sneaky. There are lots of different levels of cover you can select, including "No Thanks" ... but for some curious reason they don't automatically set it to that one for you.
I've gone in and unsubscribed immediately, but had to ask for them to remove it from the Dec bill.
Is it actually legal to sign people up for this sort of thing without asking them first?
I cannot help think it's a cold blooded cynical marketing ploy, knowing that many people either don't bother checking their bills, or don't check them carefully enough?Favours are returned ... Trust is earned

I think that has to be illegal, look at the trouble banks are in for charging people for PPI without informing them!0

Strange. One advantage of being dead is that you no longer have to worry about your bills...No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Indeed nothing like doing a Hotblack Desiato. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

But does this not replace the £3 per month membership charge you would have been paying? So even those who do not notice should still be £1 per month better off.0

Don't think so.
They have abolished the compulsory membership fee and replaced it with this optional bolt on.You should have had a letter.
See post 3096 in the dedicated (only place your suppose to discuss) UW thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/24735470 -
Don't think so.
Wrong.
Yes, the oft-criticised (on here!) monthly membership fees have been scrapped. You can of course still get a monthly paper bill as standard, as I do (no other energy supplier would contemplate doing this of course). Plus the also oft-criticised (on here!) 0844 CS number has also been replaced by a freephone number (there is I believe one Big 6 supplier who still hasn't gone freephone but hey ho). The latest bone of contention (on here) is, as has already been mentioned, very easy to opt out of - online even (which I did a while ago).
