The price per kWh will equate to the amount he was paying (shock horror) and your response will be "you have made them up". So, what's the point? And there you go again, ending your post with the disclaimer that obviously I won't post the details because I'm wrong in order to give the impression that when I don't post them, I am conceding that I am wrong. Your clever attempt at psychology doesn't work on me.

There is nothing that either you or HappyMJ have posted which leads me to conclude anything other than I was correct in my original asseration that I have saved the guy a significant amount of money.

You ask for details, I give them to you. You don't like them, so I am lying. You ask for more proof. I'm not inclined to comply with any more of your "requests for information" just to be called a liar again. You have shown through this exchange, quite conclusively, that you have not a leg to stand on with regard to the savings that people can make with UW (you didn't respond at all to my post about the telephony I note, and still no mention of UW's excellent mobile packages) and I am not interested in bothering to try to convince you any further when your only response is that I'm a liar.

I have tried to keep it business-like and discuss the numbers. You're not interested. Might as well lock the thread now.

Meeper, I had a similar experience (quite some time ago now ), whereby my assertion that UW had been far cheaper than my new customers encumbent supplier, was scorned by the anti-UW brigade and I was pretty much called a liar too.

The fact still remains that, in many, many instances, our energy prices WERE cheaper. I have only ever come across a very small number of residential users who have been on a cheaper rate. For the large part, UW prices have been cheaper. And that's on a unit rate and taking membership costs into account. And without bringing the Cashback card iinto the equation. Why should I know or care what tariff they're on with whoever they happen to be with? The customer usually doesn't know or care either, they just look at what they're being charged, as do I.

I don't make a habit of taking away and keeping/photocopying my customers current bills! Why would I? In case some faceless person on some internet forum decides that because what we state as fact doesn't support his argument and demands that we produce evidence?

The fact that some random person, somewhere doesn't like what I state as fact after reading a customers bills just isn't important enough for me to actually care about.

I save my customers money and that's all they and I care about. If other people don't like it that's their problem.

All I want to know is exactly what I would save if I were to switch to UW and no-one here has given me a figure only a statement that "UW is guaranteed to be cheaper" and that's all I need to know as they have "double the difference" price promises to back that up.

That statement and the promise has so many conditions that it makes it impossible to claim against due to the comparables being different.

OK here's another one I've been saving a few friends some money and another one last night overheard me save someone else lots of money so he asked me to save him money. Will someone here tell me what he could save with UW or is it just going to be dismissed as troublemaking. I'll recommend him something but I'm finding this one quite hard to beat.

He's got a Virgin mobile SIM. 800 minutes , unlimited texts, unlimited internet. £21 per month (That's cheaper with UW)
He's got Virgin broadband and home phone, unlimited internet, unlimited calls, caller number display, wireless router £35 per month. He thinks he can get £5 a month off if he calls retentions. (Another possible cheaper with UW-even with wireless and caller number display and the possible £5 retentions offer)
EDF Standard plan duel fuel East Midlands. Doesn't use much as he has a coal fire and is out a lot. 3,650kWh on Gas and 1,825kWh on Electric. £40 a month. (UW promises to be cheaper than the standard plans of other providers...don't they)
He spends £50 per week in the shops that are eligible for cashback.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Haven't you suggested your deal with BT?

I only get free evening and weekend calls and 40GB internet a month. For a new customer as you know it's about £36.50 a month for unlimited internet and unlimited calls and he's not interested in all the frills. Just a wireless router and caller number display.

I just have a feeling that UW might win on this one.

We certainly won't say you have made up the kWh prices.

With the name of the tariff and the price per kWh,( pre-August and post-August) it is very easy to ascertain from Scottish Power and other sources if the prices you give were correct or not.

In fact there is a very helpful and informative Scottish Power Representative who officially posts(he has permission from MSE) on this Gas and Electricity forum. Also there are loads of people who keep their old bills and would confirm prices.

Start a thread called - Scottish Power Historical Prices

    post:

I have an acquaintance who is on Scottish Power ……….. tariff Manweb area.

For gas prior to August he was paying ……./…… pence per kWh for Tier 1/Tier 2

Post August he was paying ……./…… pence per kWh for Tier 1/Tier 2.

These prices are considerably in excess of SP's extant Standard tariff prices and it has been suggested that a mistake has been made.

Can anyone confirm those prices were correct, especially the SP representative.

If you give me the tariff and kWh prices I will post it for you and also get the information from another source.

However you won't do it will you?

What is the problem? A rhetorical question perhaps, as I think we all know why you will refuse.

For BT a new customer will pay £36.50 a month – an old customer can obtain the same package via retentions for £32.20.

    For UW - assuming LLU - the cost would be £25 + £7.75 phone calls + £1.50 membership + *£2 caller number display + *£2 wireless router = £38.25

    * Not certain of the £2 as difficult to find on the website.

Also although BT is cheaper than UW(and has loads of frills that many find essential) I am told there are cheaper packages than BT.

WEF 3/12/11 the price per month (taking into account the 3 month introductory offer) will be £38/mth. I'm afraid that if you really are serious about comparing the 2, the bad news for your argument is that you need to add £5.20/mth for the Intl option, which comes to an eye watering £42.20/mth. Don't forget you HAVE to stick with this for 18 months minimum before you can threaten to cancel and to get this price you will need to actually pay BT £120 UP FRONT. Most BT customers will be paying £46.80/mth for this package. Holy Moly. Their cash back card is absolutely pants as well.

PS Not sure why you found it difficult to see UWs extra calling features details, it's simple as. Go to their site, click on Home Phone, look to the right at the dialogue box called Key Points and click on Choice of extra services. The sum total of 2 clicks with the mouse. Scary stuff.

How do you know what my "sales technique" is.

    You have demonstrated it here!

    1) Make a misleading though eye catching statement that a friend would expect to be true if told him by his rep who is also a financial adviser

    2) Just shout at anyone who dares to question the claim!

    eg:

You are guaranteed to save money by switching your telephone & broadband bundle, mobile and standard energy from your previous supplier, or you get double the difference back.

But this offer is a one off, not a permanent feature of UW. You can only claim once but continue having to pay the high prices thereafter.

You cannot use it unless you can meet all the conditions for two separate one off offers (including being able to submit 3 sets of meter readings within a tight time frame of just 5 days either side of 3 set dates - fail to submit one and you lose the lot).

These small print conditions run to 3 pages!

eg. Move house and you lose all your cashback and your price promise is forfeit even if you remain a member of the UW club.

eg. You cannot use it unless your previous supplier's standard tariff is more expensive than the UW standard tariff, (irrespective of how cheap you were getting supplied previously, so what is the point of calling it a "guarantee", when at best it's a one off offer)
