  • I still love freecycle-I recently requested an item but unfortunately before I collected it I broke my ankle:(.I am sure the freecycler thought hmm yes,I believe that.It is true:o.

Pity - but couldnt you have got a friend or relative to pick it up for you ? :(
As Martin says - please be nice - there is no such thing as a stupid question ! ;)

Its so hard/impossible to distinguish real need.

Unfortunately the desire to give items to people who really need them has caused a lot of the problems on Freecycle IMO. I think everyone now feels obliged to give a sob story because they think they will be ignored otherwise. If you read my local Freecycle group you'd think that every person moving into their own home/having a baby/buying a pet/going to university/whatever was living on the bread line and eating water and gruel for every meal. I'd much rather someone just posted a wanted saying, "If anyone has an old bed that would be great as I am trying to furnish my first home" rather than "I'm going to be sleeping in the cellar with the rats because I am too poor for a bed".

Of course you get scammers and chancers. I too hate the 'ring me on my mobile' responses. I was giving away some small items and said the area I live in (close to a station) to get a response like that and a request to bring them to the station NOW and then they could get them off me.

Someone once asked me to bring an item to Heathrow Airport and meet him during the hour he'd have free before his flight. He was genuinely annoyed and baffled about the fact that I wasn't prepared to go on a 40 minute drive to the airport and pay the parking charges!

I'm with you on that one, I can't bear the hard luck stories, I've found that they're often the rudest as well.
I tend to bypass them as I don't want to hear about others carp. Being a caring sharing sort of person.

meany, or is it meanie? Was he actually catching a plane or living at the airport for the warmth & social interaction he can get from all those people, being far too poor to have a place to call home:rotfl:

Yesterday i posted on our 'greencycle' an offered for a BROKEN dishwasher.. and went into the details that i didn't really want to throw it away as i thought it could be easily fixed.

i've received one reply so far:

"Hello, I have just seen your advert and it would be much appreciated if you would consider allowing me to be the new owner, this item would be for my own use and i can collect immediately or at your convenience. I can be contacted on 01*** *** ***
    Regards
    *****"

I'm wondering if A) shes even noticed i've said its broken. B) does she even know what the 'item' is? and C) why on earth would i want to phone her??

If I get any answers which dont include what item it is I'm offering then they dont get it. Looks to me like a blanket reply they send to every offered (probably on an auto reply) and sell what they get

I guess it's a dealer as the email doesn't directly mention the item or what it is and they point out 'its for their own use'. Also the asking you to phone is normally what dealers do. It's probably an email that's sent for every item offered.

I would be tempted to create a new email address, post a different item, and if you get the same reply from the same person, thus confirming them to be a dealer, send them on a wild goose chase.

I responded to an elderly ladies request for all household items for her neice who had been in a homeless hostel for a year and now had her first home. I gave loads. Two days later at a Boot Fair I saw the bint selling half my house! I didn't say anything cos she was so old and gave me a box of Quality Street on collection.

Report them to the mods. This kind of idiot is not what freecycle is about and they should be banned!

Hi I know that this is a really big ask, but i have just started a new job it does not pay alot but i love it anyway, I am in desperate need of a car or motorbike that i can use to get to and from work so that i can be home in time to pick the children up. it doesnt matter what condition it is in as i can spend time getting it done up all i ask is that it runs, i cannot afford to buy a car as i only get 6.00 per hour but i am desperate.

Oh yes i have 4 spare, would you like me to pay the tax and insurance too? I'm getting annoyed with people asking for pups and kittens for free too as 'can't afford one' what about VET BILLS? insurance? FOOD?
If google doesn't know it, how should i?
