Someone posted an offered last night:

"Free to good home. Rover Metro 1993 1.2 litre, 50,00 miles, regularly serviced and garaged, 2 owners from new. MOT expired in September 2010, but no problems anticipated; no tax. Suit learner or an automobileophobe, compelled because of rural location to make short trips. Lucky taker must collect from *******. Please contact *******************"

They'll no doubt have a reply from someone asking what colour it is. Before they decide if they want it.

    We had this one today:

hi iv just moved in new houes and just like 2 no if anyone got any carpets need bigish plz

Speaking as a list owner - freecycle exists solely to prevent items ending up in landfill.

If they are claimed by someone who subsequently makes a profit out of them, freecycle has acheived its objective. As far as I am aware ( and I am a member of several groups) no freecycle group bans the subsequent selling of offered items.

We do however request as a courtesy that if the recipient plans to sell the item that they make it clear.

Yes, I used to own a group - it's more the blatant lying about purpose, our rules have ALWAYS been that you can sell but MUST be honest about it. Sorry but if I was still modding and found someone pulling this sob story on everyone and then reselling I'd ban them so fast! (and i opened my group for the purpose of landfill reduction too, i just can't abide lying!)

How did you police that rule? If someone sells via eBay or out of area then you are not going to know.

I suspect concocted sob stories are universal whether wanting items for sale or to try and improve the chances of the one being chosen. However my list follows the primary objective of keeping out of landfill. I do not believe it is the role of freecycle to make moral judgements. Those should be left to the individual who is giving away the item.

Far more of an irritation to me are members who join under multiple alias to circumvent the restriction on the number of Wanted posts!
  • Hi, I think the rules must vary on different groups with how many "wanteds" can be posted, but my local group definetely says about selling on -

"SELLING ON: Members found to be selling on items will be removed from the group"

I suppose the only way they would find out is if the giver reported them, but there could be repercussions from that (ie, the taker may get hacked off, and they know your name and address).
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:
  • ours is just one a week

    - this reminds me of Freecycle -could be it`s theme tune !( play loud ! )

actually I think the lyrics might be.........

    I need I need I need I need

I used to only want but now I need
To get by with what I got but now I need
    I need
I used to only want but now I need

    I need beds
    I need cars
    I need sinks
    I need rugs
    I need a cruise
    I need cash
I need you to ring me back
    You to ring me back
    You to ring me back

    I need I need I need I need

I just can't do without 'cos now I need
The things I care about 'cos now I need
    I need
I used to only want but now I need

    REPEAT CHORUS

    I need I need I need I need

And now I have to dream because I need
Of a necessary scheme to get me what I need :rotfl:
    I need
I used to only want but now I need

    INSTRUMENTAL BREAK

    I need I need I need I need

The things I used to crave for now I need
Have made me just a slave for what I need
    I need
Yes I am just a slave for what I need

    I need beds
    I need cars
    I need sinks
    I need rugs
    I need a cruise
    I need cash
I need you to ring me back
    You to ring me back
    You to ring me back

 It really could be! LOL:rotfl:
If google doesn't know it, how should i?

I'm getting more and more surprised that anyone can actually use freegle, my local ones run through Yahoo which is incredibly unreliable, I can rarely get access anymore. Today for example I have this message when I try to log in (and no, I was logging in to yahoo UK)

I had this message yesterday too. I clicked back and re-clicked it and it worked fine.

Yahoo has bee doing some very strange things over the last few days- worse than usual.

My current problem is that it seems to have resubscribed several members who left years ago. Some of them are not too happy about it!
