must admit to being cheeky myself. I have seen requests on there for "free teaching resources" and having given away all my freebies I was left with the sellable items (£20 books etc). And yes I have sent them an e-mail saying "I have unfortunalty given away all my freebies, but good luck with your search. If nothing comes up I have the following xxxxxx for xxxxxxx (individual prices)."

Its up to them if they want to pay the few quid I was asking or just ignore it.

On my freecycle site asking for cash for goods is strictly banned and gets people removed from the list, so I guess it depends on how strict the moderators are.
  • It annoys me when people reply to my offers like this:

"hi if the ZYX is still available I would like it. tel 07xxxxxxxxx. do you have any pics of it"

    later:

"hi i still haven't heard from u if the XYZ is available i can collect this evening or tomorrow, my work no is 01xxx xxxxxx mob. 07xxxxxxxxx, id really appreciate it as my daughter really wants an XYZ and we can't afford one because bla bla bla bla"

    1.What happened to "please?"
    2. What happened to using capital letters and correct punctuation?
    3. Why are you expecting me to use my spare time to run up my own phone bill to phone you about something I'm giving you for free? (This one never ceases to amaze me).
    4. Why are you demanding to see a photo of something you're getting for free? This isn't ebay. Take it or leave it.
    5. Why are you assuming that a time that suits you will also suit me?
    6. Why do you think that telling me an irritating sob story will make me any more likely to pass on my used goods?

What does everyone else do with this kind of email? If there haven't been any other (more polite) emails to choose from, I generally ignore this kind, but sometimes no one else has happened to want the thing I'm giving away, so I end up giving it this the kind of person just to get rid of it. Needless to say, I don't lecture them on the points I've listed above; it isn't my place, as I'm not a mod, but maybe I shouldn't give them anything in the first place. :o

I just ignore them. I also ignore the "regulars".

  • "WANTED: pc monitor, drive, keyboard, mouse
im working for social services and am looking for the above for a family
im working with who are working together to overcome domestic violence."

How would a PC help them, exactly? How in the hell did you get employment with social services with your level of literacy!? Don't positions like that require you to fill in, y'know, paperwork? Jesus.

    Also

'hello i am after a electric cooker as mine caught fire and i cant cook anything m40 area '

    and

'has anybody got a microwave as mine has packed up '

From the same person. Firstly, you're obviously a hazard and shouldn't be allowed near electricity. Secondly, far too tempting to reply 'Why yes, I DO have a microwave, and it's awesome. Thanks for asking :)'

This morning I posted a 'wanted' request for a Brownie's shirt on my local Freecycle.

We were caught short; due to a cancellation at one day's notice my daughter could attend Brownies tonight.

I received three spam mails for junk sites and the one below.

Hiya I hav a brownies hooded jacket thing not sure of age but can check.
Im asking 5 pounds for it thou

That was my first 'wanted' request. Never again.

We don't really care if they have a uniform or not for ages, if we have spare going we'll pass it onto whoever's new (it goes around the pack in circles... mind you, so do the leader's uniforms - my top's on about it's fourth owner).

Best I ever had was when I listed a PS1 and somewhat erratic PS2 (me and hubby had both had one and I was having a pre-move clearout).... "please can I have it as I do something for the premature babies up the hospital"... didn't think their hands were big enough to work a playstation controller! Went to someone who was at least honest enough to say "I've got 2 boys and they'll be driving me crackers all holidays" - honest, no stupid sob story and aforementioned two boys came with mum to collect it and had grins right across their faces.

Must get round to listing the infernal telly blocking up the spare room - really cannot be bothered with the sob stories I'll get.

As for the electronics cursed guy you just posted - we've got one who in the last month, at weekly intervals has posted "Hi, does anyone have a Washer/Silver Fridge/Cooker/TV as mine has just died on me and I lost my job this week so money's a bit tight." If she's losing a job a week - she should start being more careful. First few sounded completely plausible - then I noticed the identikit pattern, mainly because she's local to me and I actually did have a cooker in the garden shed I briefly considered gifting (but we're moving into a place that doesn't have a fitted one now so she can go whistle).

Ok this is from someone who asks for everything constantly. The final one in this trilogy tonight.

So it looks like some dog was stopped going to 'landfill'

    and Finally tonight
My first question is what have you been feeding the dog from. Also what Muppet gave her a Border Collie. Border Collies are hyperactive intelligent and if they are not walked at 4 times a day and kept interested they will chew your house apart and drive you barmy and attempt to herd you like a sheep or even nip your children (I know this woman has a 10 year old from previous posts).

As a dog lover and owner I would never get a Border Collie and leave it hone alone 3 days a week (see 1st quote) Also I would personally want to own a big field to keep it entertained. Border Collies are Barmy and unless worked or entertained can be a nightmare. A lot end up in rescues when they are homed to inappropriate owners.

I await for the dog being offered on Freecycle. We have had that before (last year) and that was a border collie.

We lost our greatly loved rescue collie cross earlier this year after having him for 13 and a half years.

A couple of weeks ago on our freecycle, a jack russell was offered.

We were soooo lucky and ended up with him, but thank goodness we did, my family are experienced in dog walking and handling. (I actually don't do the walking bit, but the others do:o)

He was mega naughty and untrained, but all he wants to do is please, so the toilet training part was sorted in a day or two.:j Still naughty though, but now just in a cute way.

I do dread to think where he might have ended up, as apparently she had loads of replies. She never checked me out or anything.

Not sure about this one that appeared on my local freecycle earlier today ?

I'm 27 years old, i still feel like a child and i've had to say goodbye
to my mummy & best friend. My mum was very proud that i had made such a
lovely home for myself from all the things that freecycles gave me. my
last post was for a wedding dress, she didnt see her little girl get
married so i want to make sure the church is as pretty as a wedding. So
if anyone has any silk flowers/ oasis or flowers that i could cut from
your gardens please help me to give my mum a special day. x
  • They're really on form on mine tonight.

"deu to being unenployed i thought id start a hobby so looking for a caravan or motorbike to tinker with must be roadworty as i cant afford to fix them up let me know what you have to offer an ill consider"
The same person in an earlier post was looking for a large telly, must be over 38" and some wii games because he was driving his girlfriend mad because he was under her feet all the time.

Another post from someone else " I'm in desperate need of a gas cooker. My current cooker has suddenly died on me and i really need one for the kids tea" While I feel sorry for her I have a vision of her children sat forlornly around the kitchen table with empty plates, looking hungry while waiting on someone to offer a cooker.
