Our local freecycle group has sent out a bulletin askikng people not to put in long fussy 'wanted' lists (it was worded a lot more nicely than this) but essentially asking people to exercise a bit of restraint when posted wanted ads. By the sounds of it, people were expecting to have their entire houses furnished from a single advert.

Had a friend who offloaded some wardrobes via a Gumtree freebie site and the person that collected it was loaned a hammer. They accidentally took it with them and never came back to drop it off, despite numerous phone calls. You'd have thought after being given a grand's worth of furniture, they could have the courtesy to return the tool but no such luck.
  • I sometimes ask on the local group for things I need on the offchance that someone has something going spare. For example, I asked for some garden plants to help replenish my borders that had to be ripped up to put a new fence in. This was to stop the new next door neighbour's dog from getting over again (we believe but can't prove that she jumped our fence and killed my beloved pet bunnies - who incidentally came from someone on Freecycle). I've had a few very kind offers from people, which has been really nice.

I did ask for patio slabs and any rocks for a rockery, but not surprisingly offers were not forthcoming, but then if you don't ask you don't get and given the amount I've had to shell out on the garden, saving a few quid on plants was very welcome.

At the same time, when we cleared out the garden and the old fence I offered that on Freecycle along with a some shoes, a kettle and toaster we had replaced when we got the new kitchen put in. What does irk me is that there are so many dealers on there that they get the pick of the offered ads. So much so that when something really useful comes up, e.g. someone offered some forage which would have been great for my new buns, I didn't even get a response to my enquiry because I'm sure that person must have been overwhelmed with interest from people who probably don't even have pets.

Just a few on ours recently

    Wanted: Gearbox
Could anyone help me please ?
I am looking for a gear box for a peugeot 306 on a w reg it must be 1.4 with abs
    Thanks

Wanted: Back box for a P reg corsa
    Hi,
If you have one i would be very gratedful ours fell off yesterday and is a bit worse for wear and the car now sounds like a boy racer car which is not good. Thanks for reading.

    Wanted: Xbox wireless adapter
I know it's long shot but does anyone out there have a wireless adaptor for the
x box 360, surplus to requirements? My son currently connects his x box to the
web via an extremely long usb cable which snakes its way around the house and is
a bit of a hazard (especially when both my husband and myself have just had
various surgeries, and don't want to find ourselves back in hospital thanks to
    the cable!!)
It would be much appreciated, in fact it could be lifesaver!!
    Thanks for reading this

We had someone offer a car the other day, it needed a lot of work though, not seen a Taken for it yet.
  • Its very good of the lady to offer this - but I cant see myself knocking on her door ( licking my lips ! ) and asking for this....

I have a pot of double cream. I only needed a 100ml for a recipe and there's 200ml left. The use by date was yesterday so it really needs to go. It should be ok today as I only opened it this afternoon. I hate to throw away food so does anyone want it for immediate consumption this evening?

although the cat would like it I suppose

    :)

One person today has asked for:
    Tumbler dryer
    Rowing machine
    Multi Gym

And, funny, but somebody else, 3 minutes later, wants a rowing machine too.
